I followed this thread from the beginning and experienced the restoration through these pages. But not until tonight did I go back to the first page. I had totally forgot what you started with.

Tunnel ports that BIG are made for swallowing ELEPHANT engines.

  6. It's an honor for us to be part of this great ole gasser, and even greater man getting back to the drag strip where they rightly belong. 95% of the time, these great ole race cars and the men & women who built & raced them, end up at carshows, or a Museum, and never get to do a burn out, muck less, a half pass, and that's a pretty sad thing to me. There just aren't good enough words to say about Gene & the Moonlighter being out, and mixing it up again. Now the man is planning on going faster! Got to love it!

Ric, I'm glad to hear you're moving to the right coast and I'm looking forward to seeing "YESTERDAY'S CHILD" running with the Southeast Gassers.

Thanks DDDenny, A big smile still comes across my face every time Gene makes a pass down the track. Just like it was when I was 9 years old.

Quain, of all the pics I have, this is one of my favorites. I have no idea who took it, it was on a CD that Gene gave me. IMG_9689_zpsb14113f9.jpg

I've seen that pic before I think Daron Gray took it?

Gene had me a pencil drawing done of that pic. I was fussing at him before he made the first pass telling him to be careful and not try to be a hero. I had already got on him about getting it out in the drive way and doing dry hops with no helmet or seat belts. As you can see he wasn't paying me any attention. He's fearless.

He don't look like he wants to take any advice from a kid.

Thanks Merlin! Yes, I took this picture at the unveiling of the Moonlighter at Greer. Being able to listen to the conversation that day was a hoot. Quain trying to be serious over his concern for Gene's safety and Gene giving him a big friendly laugh.

Deron, I went back and credited you for the photo. I know what you mean by being able to listen in on conversations. I have had many opportunities since the Moonlighter's resurrection. One of my favorite moments was re-introducing Gene and Hubert Platt at Atlanta Dragway. They were good friends in the 60's, but hadn't seen each other in many years. As we were leaving, Hubert pulled me to the side and thanked me for bringing Gene to see him. DSC02984 (1024x768).jpg DSC02985 (1024x768).jpg

  19. This is what it's all about. Only talked to him a few times and he seems like a real nice man. But I just want to run him. He'll probably whoop me, but at least I can say I ran him.

Charles Tyre added some new lettering to the Moonlighter. Gene has gotten a sponsorship from a long-time friend and former drag racer. I'm waiting until Saturday's Southeast Gassers race at Knoxville to show the completed trunk lid. Gene took the opportunity to get some lettering done on the valve covers for his new engine.

Go Gene Go!! I doubt if your "new" sponsor will be disappointed.
