I really like this car and it would be cool if there was one still around.

 

I believe that Christie was scrapped by Barney Oldfield, front wheels we cast bronze, must have been quite a scrap payout. Bob

 

If I ever own one, I'm calling it "Chris".

 

With a 67-mile lap over unmade roads it was a necessary precaution.

 

It would be nice to see a close up photo of the right mounted spare, they look a bit odd , but that is to clear the shift and brake levers. Bob

Bob the Kid,
Kid is old 10 years when photo is taken, started driving automobiles with 5 years and made a record of 150 km/hour when 8 years old!
Couldn't imagine what happend with him later?

In last weeks quiz he was 8 years old and at the wheel of 1926 Salmson Val 3. Yet he was famous for an even earlier event. At the age of 5 years old he already could drive a car on his own. With the Bugatti depicted here he was 10 and drove around a circuit (Montlhéry ?) at a speed of 150 km/hour... Irresponsible parents !!! We understand Albert didn't live long, the cause of his death is a mystery so far to us." (collection Horwitz)

An article from Le Parisien, published in 2000. Important to understand that the French word 'pilote' can refer to both a racing driver and an aviator:

Albert Derancourt seems to have been killed in a flying accident in 1955. The article also mentions an American film, never shown in France, but I can find no trace of it on IMDB. Maybe just a newsreel?

If we do not have more phtos of older Derancourt, there is one with old Coogan from TV-serial "Addams Family"...

FRENCH BOY WILL APPEAR IN JACKIE COOSAN PICTURE PARIS, Jan. 2.--(By Mail)--Eight years of age, four feet four Inches in height, but already driving arii automobile at 120 kilometers an hour, Albert Derancourt--Bobert to his intimate friends - leaves for the United States soon to appear with Jackie Coogan in a film. "Do you know 'the Kid'? some one as 'ked Bebert. "Sure," he replied. "Didn't I see him often in the cinema?" The French boy obtained his chauffeur's permit at the age of six and one-half years and recently was granted a driver's license for autotlromes. At the recent opening of the Monthlery speedway - which will be the scene of the 1925 Grand Prix - young Derancourt drove his car for 60 kilometers at the average speed, ofi 120 kilometers an hour. "Do you know what sort of a film yon are going lo appear in over there?" the young prodigy was asked. "Will you drive an automobile?" ... "Certainly." he replied, "otherwise I shouldn't go." ​

I ran across this nice image of the Chevrolet brothers Indy car. I haven't seen this particular image before.

 

Lee that is a nice pic. I am guessing that is some of the back area of Indy in 1919. For some reason it looks familiar. I only wish something of these 300 cubic inch cars survived.

 

I would love to be involved in a recreation effort on that car. Amazing design.

Lee I would love to see a recreation as well. There are really enough pictures and schematics of the engine to do a pretty fair job. All we need is someone with the pocketbook and desire. All in all they were a pretty decent car that held their own in pretty decent company.

 

Yes, it could be done. The car could be recreated full scale in CAD, then castings ordered directly from the CAD files. I've been doing that kind of work.

I guess I'm late to the party, but that is a wonderful picture Lee! While it could have been taken at Indy, it may have also been shot in Detroit in the spring of 1916, as there are images of the team in front of Louie's house on West Grand Boulevard. The profile is stunning, (I love the tail on this machine), and the image shows the car without the belly pans. Those gas tanks are huge.
