Hi V4F, I've checked timing, it's set at 5 degrees advanced at idle. I've also checked points gap, 0.016'.

 

do you know what it is running @ speed ? not knowing your motor , 35* total should run 50mph or so

 

I got the old cast iron bodied Mallory flat cap dizzy rebuilt by Bubba's Hot Rod Shop in the US. I believe full advance comes in at 1800rpm with a total of 30 degrees...

 

ok , will it rev up in neutral ? or just wont pull the load ? ...........
can you get 35* total out of the dist. ?

 

It seems to rev up fine in neutral, under load is a different story.
I might get the dizzy spun up on a machine, you think that I need a total of 35 degrees?

 

not being there : it doesn't take much retard to kill the top end . I would try 35* just cause you haven't . it wont hurt anything & will eliminate one area . fuel flow next . ... steve

I have been very lucky to find the tools I've collected over many years. Somethings are rare enough that if no one tells you "These things once existed" some might pass by them at a swap meet. Often old tools are best to solve old problems. Many companies went out of business and people have just forgotten.

 

we are to old for most of the REAL parts/tools company's . we just out lived them !

 

hey, can you run a 4 blade model B fan on an A water pump? Running an A head and would rather use the B fan I have than buy an A fan.

I can't seem to get many of the links to work.

 

Guys just be a little carefull using more than 30° with standard oiling systems can be a little hard on bearings

 

trying to figure out his problem . not recommending all the time .................

 

Which links are you referring to?

 

He has 30° total at 1800 rpm that should be enough for plenty of rpm but like you said it should be checked

 

I was curious to see if this was setting timing with vacume or if it was tuning carbs or something else but can't open it.

thanks for the drawing, I had been looking for it via the link however as discovered the link is not working.

I thought I would take the dimensions, plus measure us some A and B flywheels I have and make a complete drawing and see how the calculated weight (solidworks feature) come out.

I used the dimension suggested in the drawing applied to a Model B crank, and calculated weight came out to 40.87 pounds. Then applied what weight reductions I could for the V8 clutch style to a model B and came out with 35.18 pounds.

The I thought I would just see what it would take to get the stock Model B down to about 30 pounds. Unsure if this would be a usable wheel? Safe? Thoughts?

If some dimensions are off or missing, let me know and I will changes and add.
