My 64 Biscayne that was stored for over 46 years. Was completely stock and unmolested. After the owners passed the car was sold in an estate sale. The car looks as if it came out of the showroom . Original paint looks great. Can't believe rats and mice didn't eat out the interior. IMG_0812.JPG

My paint isn't big bucks, as it cost me less than $200 to do it myself. And even with the lettering I did myself it's barely over $300 now. Yes, it's shiny, but shiny doesn't have to mean expensive.

Before and after pictures. I actually bought the car because I liked the paint or lack of. It's my no stress car. received_1480202418702822.jpeg 20180503_081333.jpg

There is always something special about a car
that says, " this is what I am, and I don't give
a rat's ass what you think about it!"
    I love it!

Last primed in the mid 80s (if memory serves me) with DuPont Red Oxide. Even picked up a few trophies along the way.

‘I’m not an unfinished car kind of guy, but understand primer as having a place while building. In the sixties, we all had primer on parts of our cars as we progressed, maybe different colors of primer. But in my memory, no one in my small Northern California town left their car in primer as a finished ‘paint’ job. My car here during construction and shakedown a few years ago was in four colors of primer plus some bare metal before tear down and a shiny paint job. Primer in one color on the whole car was something rarely seen in the sixties; it usually meant the car was going to get real paint in a week or two. We drove our cars during the week and worked on them during weekends.

My '57 was originally coral and white, was repainted all red, then all white (possibly twice), each job over the top of the other, with very little sanding. Last painted by high school kids in the late 70's by my best guess. I think the super thick globbed on paint is what saved it, it's not really rusty at all. I do kinda wish it was more uniformly one color though.

  23. Nice Squa, I like it. BUT, you could get a hose out and carefully wet sand the top color down to get a more uniform color underneath. Just be careful and don't go too far. Or you could burn thru the paint in some areas and get a little surface rust the next time it rains. Sometimes you can tailor Patina. But you can't fake it. Fake Patina is just fake.

The first picture is from the day I bought mine. It looked a little too much like fake patina to me so I did a little spray can fix.

I've seen that truck in person and it looks a lot nicer than you let on! Your truck almost convinced me to flatten the black on mine, it's that cool.

The most memorable model car I ever built was an orange 55 post that I built as a gasser. Those pics took me back a bunch of decades. Great car!
