I've had all kinds of surprises in packages of parts I've bought online. Everything from someone else's trash, porn, extra parts, missing parts, and broken parts to someone else's roaches, spiders, and rat droppings. Today I picked up a large package at the post office and upon opening the box I was pleasantly surprised to find this awesome masterpiece in the packing materials. Needless to say...it made my day!! Thanks, 1933bob! What surprises have you found in your packages??
Los Boulevardos have a random crap exchange where people send random things to each other, which sounds like what you got, sounds like fun to me.
At least you got bubble wrap. Lol. I bought a high dollar dual point distributor a couple months ago and the guy couldn't even pack it properly. Found it in the mailbox with the shaft sticking out the side.
Last week I got a '57 Posi center chunk. When I opened the cardboard box, I found it zip=tied in a plastic milk crate to protect it. Now, I have another plastic storage crate.
i throw in stickers from car shows i've been to, usually hunnert car pile up stickers. you guys owe me.
Bought a pair of steel shim head gaskets on ebay 10 years ago ,about fell out when I found a large pair of channellocks inside. They help out a lot.
Dude, you should take that to the Antique Roadshow. Those people get stupid appraisals for old art work!
Hahahaha! Probably something his kid drew in art class, but I'm going to frame it and put it up in the shop to remind me to do the same in the future. It wasn't much but you know what they say..."one man's junk..."
Ordered some machine parts at a place I used to work at; opened the crate and found a Sharp EL-5060 Scientific Calculator. It got me through a lot of college-level math (including Calc I), science, CAD, and two degrees!
for packing: I have bot blankets at GOODWILL on Saturday $2.00 I Always cut U shaped holes for handles.... works very well..
I used to get lots of junk mail, some of it irritating. SO 'irritating', in fact, that it prompted me to cut up an old 5.60 X 14" tire and pack it in a heavy cardboard box, and drop it off at the post office with the return slip! I kind of wanted to rescind a little later, though...when the ladies at Mid '50s sent me my stainless liners for my door windows, and 6 Tootsie rolls rolled out. ...and I sent some poor schmuck some chunks of Bias Ply!
We're better than that! Be like the shippers at Mid 50's and throw in some Tootsie Rolls. Nobody wants chunks of bias ply tires!! Lmfao
I just received a set of polishing rouge 'sticks' (1.5" X 1.5" X 7") and were so poorly packaged that the staples were knocked out of the plastic blister pack, and 3 of the sticks broken in half! The sender said, "Just pack them back up, I'll send you a label to print out, and send you some new." The email I got had a tag that went to India, (I think...Nowhere a return shipping tag.) I replied, and he sent another nonsense 'page', with a 'logo' in the center... "Distance alone hath protected this example of the unwashed..." Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy when fried and good with ketchup -olde English proverb
I very recently bought a gauge panel from another HAMBer (you know who you are) that he had listed with a bunch of other stuff. When I got the package, it seemed a tad heavy. When I opened it, aside from the gauge panel, I found a bunch of beautifully machined exhaust flanges. I P.M.ed him to tell him I got the package & (kiddingly) thanks for the bonus. He says "Huh?" They were pieces he just had made for his Model A project. Needless to say, the parts had a nice vacation from Texas to Pennsylvania & back to Texas.
The funniest things I've gotten was from our own Porknbeaner. The packing for an intake manifold was a bunch of yarn and a dirty old teddy bear. Someone else is getting that teddy bear as a surprise some day.
I won an auction for a Stromberg 48 carburetor from E-xxx. All I got was a crushed box, in a plastic bag with a note from the post office saying that was how it arrived at the local post office. No evidence of a carburetor.
This is funny thread . The only thing I ever got was a giant jumping spider from Texas! Opened box spider jumped out on my chest I knocked it off me on to ground then it ran up my leg in my shorts. I was shortless when the woman from hospital next door showed up for a brake job! She said after seeing the spider run out of my shorts she said I would have been more than shortless ! Was a good laugh but when I see her she ask if I'm going to keep my pants on
My uncle bought a carburetor from a friend of his in Texas, and his friend also included a six-pack of beer in the box. A week later a package that looked like it had been used for a jack stand was left on the doorstep...neither the carb nor the beer survived.
The way shippers destroy parcels now, I am surprised just to get the package in one piece anymore. Pack you stuff well, guys, because if it CAN be destroyed, it Will be.
