Any recommendations for vendors selling carpet and headliner for a 64 Cyclone? Stock black 64 Cyclone seats and panels have already been procured. Just have to get the carpet in first..... IMG_0668.JPG IMG_0665.JPG

It's not quieter in person, that's just an illusion due to my lousy camera.

No, bite your tongue. ;) The new mufflers are 20" Powersticks with 2 ¼ pipe. I have only driven the car from the exhaust place to my house which isn't all that far, if it ends up being a little louder than I had anticipated I'll have an H-pipe installed. I'll try and get a better video soon, maybe this coming weekend I can tear up the mall parking lot before they open up for the day.

Flippin through internet and found this post. Very cool! Just thought I'd throw my 65 in the mix. It's been a race car for 40 yrs. The paint is from the late 70s. Currently putting together a Windsor 396ci with 170 shot, running toploader , Mr gasket straight shifter and 4:10s. Seriously considering a straight axle but our Canadain dollar really bites.

image.jpeg image.jpeg Very cool pictures! I met Ed Rachanski many years ago, I received a call from "Broadway Bob" who ran the Great Lakes Dragaway, Bob and Ed wanted me to help them promote some kind of event. I declined and never heard from either of them again.
On another subject, I was going through some of my stuff and found this letter I received from Jack Christman back in 1976. I had contacted him about the possibility of him having extra parts left from his '64-65 A/FX cars. He sent me this letter and a picture of him with his '64 Comet.

Howdy I entered my Comet in the 2016 Detroit Autorama this past week end and won my class(Super Street), met lots of people including Piecrust Dan if I remember right. Other than a few minor tweaks the car is done and ready for the track come summer.............Al IMG_1710.JPG photo 3 (13).JPG IMG_1798.JPG IMG_1385.JPG IMG_1800.JPG IMG_1803.JPG IMG_1806.JPG IMG_1808.JPG IMG_1810.JPG IMG_1591.JPG IMG_1778.JPG

Using OEM steering although upgraded to 65' style. The car is Super Stock Legal which means rear steer. No build album, photos were disappearing so I deleted it. Thank You for the compliments.................................Al

  20. Al: MSN webnews in their auto section had a HotRod mag coverage of the Autorama. Your car was included in the photos.
    Somewhere around #100.

Don Nicholson’s SOHC Comet Cyclone at Piedmont Drag Raceway in March 1965 for a match race with the Sox &
Martin Plymouth. Bill Stroppe prepared three ‘65 Comet Cyclones for A/FX competition, with fiberglass front
fenders, hood, and bumper. With a stock wheelbase and running pump gas, Nicholson’s Comet would easily
    run mid-10s

At the beginning of the 1964 season, Mercury released the 427 Comet. Built to compete in A/Factory Experimental
class, there were eleven Comets built: ten 2-door coupes and one station wagon. The wagon was campaigned
by Don Nicholson, who switched from Chevrolet after the ‘63 season. Seen here at Detroit Dragway in Spring
1964, the wagon had already been handed over to Eddie Schartman when Nicholson’s coupe was finished.
Under the hood was the now-standard 427 Ford Hi-Riser Mk.II drag engine, with the new head design and 14:1 compression ratio, except that it said “Mercury Super Marauder” on the valve covers. Although rated at 425 horsepower, the new engine was putting out well over 500 horses on the Ford dyno. Detroit Steel and Tubing shoe-horned the 427 Hi-Riser into the engine compartment of the Comet with minimal changes. One major change was a reduction in the height of the shock towers to clear the heads and exhaust manifolds. The dual Holley four-barrel carburetors drew fresh air through a pair of scoops on the leading edge of the hood, rather than through the flexible hose intakes found on both the lightweight Galaxie and the Thunderbolt Fairlanes.

Parts of that story are WRONG!! The first 64s had the teardrop hood, airbox and ram tubes coming from the inner headlight area! The "coupes" were actually HARDTOPS and only one wagon was built, started out with Dyno Don behind the Wheel, then Eddie then to Hawaii for a while then back to the mainland where it was crashed and burried behind a shop!!!

Hey I just copy what I find. It's up to the experts in here to point out the mistakes LOL.:D That was from a book about early Stock and super stock cars can't remember the name or author.
