I was looking at the portland swap meet's site and then at porland international raceway's site. They list different prices for entry. Is the old swap now two separate swaps? I know it used to be one big one, but last time I went it wasn't at the raceway anymore. What gives?

I heard that there is 2 seperate clubs one for the track and one for up top as they say. They are not getting along and now no bus service between the two. There will be a track this year. I hear that the fuss is over money or what ever. Some ones not happy. John

  3. 2 separate swaps, within walkin' distance of each other.[but don't figure on doing them both in one day]few years back meet ran at both sites for a couple years and there was an incredible amount of stuff there. If the clubs are fighting its their loss not ours. Will be great to have 4 days of searching and droolin'. should also help with the crowds as people will be spread out a bit more. As always when you're talkin' swap meets in Portland forget the sun block and pack/carry your rain gear. I can't wait......... [IMG]

according to some members of the clubs that have run the swap for 38 years, the city is trying to take it over, they were offered the race track for something like 110,000 dollars rent and declined so the city decided to do it on their own on the same day. last I heard there is only 400 some spaces sold so far.
personally I miss the track it was easy walking and lots of room. but I doubt if I'll go to both swaps. I'm holding down three spaces for ROADSTERS.COM Dave on the same wall as last year. his all steel and aluminum 32's should be out later this year and on display next year at the portland swap. more on that later. will have some empty chairs for any of you that want a rest stop [IMG]

The regular swap meet from what I understand is sold out of stalls, so me and some folks are getting spots at the track...Danny

Thanks guys, I'll make sure we hit both swaps and Danny, I'm sure Emilio would love to meet you and thank you for the headlight rings and guages. Let us know where your booth is and we'll stop by.

  7. The biggest bitch the Portland swapmeet people have is the traffic and the customers the track takes away from the main swapmeet. Our club( newly formed Mischief Makers) will have 4 spaces promoting the HOTROD-A-RAMA 2004 and selling off our old stuff in the main lower parking. Look for our banner high over the masses in the 7000 area. Stop by and say hi. Be sure to pick up a flyer for the event. We will also have a space at the race track as well. Don't have a space nuber location at the track yet. Should be a killer weekend full of shenanigans and piss. Ouch!

i just got off the phone with both places- the track is way less restrictive and friendlier than the expo centre people, but the expo center is the big one. however, their will be shuttles from the track to the expo center as the expo center's parking will stil be on the track. As this is the tracks first year back after a ten year hiattus-they used to have up to 2500 stalls, they currently have about 350 booked and will probably be close to 500 day of event. the track opens thursday at noon- the expo center opens fri. does anybody know the person who is putting on the event at the track? i think a really good suggestion for them would be to either make admission for the general public either free or a buck, as it is their first year, and a lot of folks wouldn't bother gettin on a bus to go see a swap 1/10 the sixe for almost the same price.

size is not the best or even an important criteria for rating a swap meet. there can be 10,000 booths but if you don't find what you're after its not worth the admission price that day. However if you find what you need/want at a reasonable price then it doesn't matter if there are 10 or 10,000 booths. just my opinion.

and if people don't want to get off the bus for the small meets then my odds of finding treasure at decent prices goes way up.

I cant wait for the swap meet either! I havent missed one year since i had to be pulled along holding my moms hand.

Back in the 80's everyone use to call it the "swamp" meet. there was sections that were grass, mud and a bit of gravel, and they sold booths on every bit of land.

If it was your first year at the meet and wanted to get a booth, you started in the swamp. This meant, bring a folding table and chairs or all your stuff will float away, and im not kidding. To walk down some isles, there was no other way to do it but just to walk right through an ankle deep pond!

And no damn year is worth talkin about unless it rains!! and you have to eat a "swamp burger" at least once! What are they now 8.50? haha!

Nothins better than riding on a packed bus at 6am on the first day with a bunch of puffy eyed old men, laughin and drinkin coffee, everyone wearing whatever car related clothing they have, gettin ready to find the treasures theyre after and tell the funniest damn jokes youll ever hear all year, hahaha!

Cant wait! We have two booths outside at the expo center, SE corner, come by and ill cook ya breakfast! [IMG]

Monster, every time I've gone, it's poured rain and I remember trudging through the puddles as a teenager with my dad at the track. Pat, did you figure out what you're doing about your boat yet?

didn't Eric say you could use his trailer if we just dropped the boat off? If you want to do that, I'd be willing to pull it there and pull the trailer back. I'll be driving my dad's 454 powered '98 GMC, so it isn't a problem.

We set up at the track last year and it kicked ass over the confusion that the top side has become. There where at least 500 vendors and well worth it. I scored a 31 model A pick up for 200.00

  30. Speaking of buying model A pickups, have any of you seen this truck being sold at the Portland swap? It was stolen from me [in Oregon] in 2002 and any info would be appreciated......thanks
