Project "Log-Dog", 1950 Chevy

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by cmarcus, Apr 28, 2013.

  1. I will probably be at Motorama, but not with my car. I plan on going to all those other shows you posted. I recommend the PBR run in Milwaukee if you haven't already heard about it.

I have heard about running the lakers that way, not sure if I can pull it off though. My pipes are not totally under the rockers, my car is pretty low. So tying into them might not be possible without cutting the body (which I'm not going to do)

Awesome, I will be there with my car. And I am planning on the PBR Run for sure. Looking forward to the season!

Ahhhh...gotcha. Yeah, don't start cutting up the body just for that change! :)

  5. good progress. I'm starting back on mine very soon. I like the real exhaust connecting into the lakes like that. I may have to try that with mine.

Thanks! I have a goal to have the engine running and in and brakes rebuilt by the end of April for Torquefest, and my paint goal is July 2nd, my birthday for a local show, Voodoo A GoGo. Gotta keep on it!

So, I got some more done today, got the car prepped for some more body mods. We are shaving the trunk and front door handles on Saturday - wanted to get a little more done before Motorama! Was also nice go get it outside for some more pictures with the nice weather.

Also, the spears from the trunk handle could make really cool side vent insert spears (not sure what you call them...) like on the Barris' Ashley '51 Chevy, or the Hirohata Merc. Maybe another body mod down the road...

Dude, I had them and the trunk hardware off in 20 mins. Helps once you know what you are doing! And no need for door popper kits....do the 'ol reach around through the vent windows

More mild kustom touches. The bodywork isn't perfect yet and needs a little more filler - hard to tell in these pics with the primer and the lighting. But I ran out of time in my weekend as I had plans to attend to. Going home on lunch to fill in the rest of the way as cold weather is coming - AGAIN, and I want this done before MotoRama this weekend. 20160227_131111.jpg

A little primer to help guide me on my highs and lows, before any skim coat.

After one skim coat, sanded and primered, but it hardened on me a bit as I was working with it as the weather was a little cooler which made the trunk lid a little cool. Still a few small pits to fill in, but it is looking great. Love the smoothed out look!

Great picture! Do you happen to know the name of that factory color? I'm digging that green for my 51 coupe

    Thanks!

Unfortunately I do not. I know Robletica on here nailed the color for his 51, but I haven't seen him on here and he only had the wheels painted. I believe he had a custom mix, and I know my car was repainted at some point, so I don't believe it is a 50 paint code when I've researched.

Needs a little more final finishing before I do real paint this summer. But got it good enough for the Motorama for this weekend!

Also, after being inspired by watching a 4 door chop at the show, I started really digging into studying the profile of my car and my long term plan for the chop next year. I found some original factory line drawings, and started playing around. I definitely found what I am looking for.

Hey I'm also building a 50. Enjoying your thread! What did you use to lower your rear? I just put in Posie 203a 3" drop leafs but they didn't lower of as much as I thought. I have Fatman dropped uprights up front.

So I actually am currently running 2" blocks in the rear with 1 coil cut from the front. For now, that is the lowest I can run and still make it out my driveway. In the long run, I am shooting for the same stance as Mike Sorci's Chevy (my dream car...) I am hoping to achieve this with a mini compressor and air shocks which will give me 2" or so of extra travel when filled up, so I can run around 4" total lowered.

Also got your PM...will send a note shortly :)

Thank you! Luckily I have lots of folks around me who are experienced and willing to help so we don't botch our first chop :p

Air shocks would be sweet. I actually wish they made them with a whole through the center so they could be used with a McPherson strut. Would make my daily driver more comfy. I am NOT a fan of struts and the resulting hard rise. Back to the 50... I am wondering about my own driveway. 3" in the back, 2" up front via dropped uprights and posie springs.

That'd be a good look. A slight taildragger rake, nothing extreme. Still drivable without breaking your neck on bumps.
