This is the same shot, right out of the camera, no adjustments. I chose B & W processing on the above, to help set it off better from the background. You can compare the two and thereby follow my thought process. GNRS-1-3.jpg

It has a crazy glow, gloss and transparency to it. Usually you can tell the color from B&W like the red one (likely) behind it but that 32 in the forefront is eerily beautiful in B&W. Thanks again. I hope I can go next year but thanks for letting me attend through your lens for now.

Here's another edit of the same photo.....dropped out more of the background. That white sign bugged me before.

Tom, Thank you so much for all the pics you post. You are truly a photo artist. You have a nack for making car porn better ! :) You would do good to publish a photo book of all your pictures.

  13. I will be there all weekend Tom. Let's make it happen. If you see a bright yellow RPU, I won't be far from it.

  15. This is very unusual to say the least. Looks sort of like a black and white pic of a chrome plated car.

I was absolutely impressed with your photos, but now that I know you do some post editing I'm even more impressed. I had no idea that you did any editing, which is the sign of a master of his craft. They all look so natural, as if you picked the perfect light, perfect angle with no crap in the background, and waited for all the people to get out of your way. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the nice words, really means a lot to me. Go back and look again, knowing that; you'll see shots that I may have "overcooked", although that term is certainly subjective and I try not to.

I think that all serious digital photographers do some degree of editing. And it was done in the film days too, only then it was a lot more difficult to pull off. Ansel Adams pioneered dodging and burning in the darkroom, where he spent 50% of his time. Definitely manipulated images

In the 1850's, Gustave Le Gray used several negatives of varying exposure times to capture a more luminous dynamic range. We see the results of that same image-blending technique in today's HDR software. Much of the HDR work we see is garish or overcooked. Trey Radcliffe is a photographer who has made a fortune teaching his HDR techniques. In my opinion, he is a good photographer who uses too much of the technique on his work. You be the judge: trey ratcliff hdr

  20. I have to go one year, maybe in 2017. Even the outside cars were great looking.

I am enjoying your great photos? Keep them coming!! I did most of my photography back in the days of black and white film and kodachrome. Curious as to what HDR is. Thanks again.

HDR stands for high dynamic range. Several exposures, from over to underexposed, are blended together using a special software. I processed one or two of these in this topic through HDR; my camera gives a good dynamic range right off the card. The HDR process can result in surreal images.

The B&Whites with the HVR are so neat when done tastefully. I agree with you on too much with Ratcliff.Knowing when to say "When" is difficult. To me you have mastered it.Thanks for that Cameo appearance of the 34 5window with the shoebox.I'd love to see that photo HVRd.Thanks again
