Very close call. Only one guy went out of the park at Trenton and lived, Eddie Sachs. He backed the Pete Schmidt car over the wall at the same spot in the fall race. Jud larson and Dempsey Wilson drive by.

An absolutely beautiful photo! Thanks Rootie.

BTW, I looked up the results of this Williams Grove race and it shows that Mauri Rose was there in the Keck front drive car (from your earlier photo) but didn't start the race. Seeing the usually rear dirt track tires on the front of that car would make an interesting photo.

Lee Wallard at Darlington 1950. If it looks like they are dressed for cold weather, they were. The race was held on Dec. 10th 1950.

In some ways Clint Brawner deserved as much blame for Sachs wearing out a tire and having to pit as did Eddie. Foyt's pit wasn't very close to the Dean pit so Eddie's crew couldn't see what went on when the Bowes team's fuel coupler broke and Foyt went back out with no additional fuel. However, several people reportedly ran up to Clint and told him that Foyt was going to have to pit again. For whatever reason Clint didn't listen to them and let Sachs continue to run hard with a full fuel load while Foyt was running faster because the car was lighter. By the time Foyt did come back in Sach's tires were likely already damaged. At any rate they were worn out as far as Sachs was concerned.

Supposedly, wasn't there a private "test session" a few days after the race with the worn out tires that lasted less than five laps before the right front popped?

A good looking but unidentified Champ car. The solid wheels and drum brakes would date it to around 1951, give or take. The nose with the small grill and the starter hole below is similar to a Pankrantz but not the rest of the car.
