Dash, knobs, striping look terrific. Beautiful work.

  3. That really does look fantastic. One of these days I've got to make some knobs for my radio....well, and my own custom knobs for everything really.

Looks like great work on the car, making radio pushbuttons is really a step above.

Can I ask what the steering column is? Is it a stock MercOmatic one or something different? I need an automatic column for my '51 and I'm trying to find the best option.

It's the stock MercOmatic column. I'm running a power glide and the MercOmatic has the same shift pattern.

I used some super glue I got at a hobby store. Sanded each piece alittle. Seemed to work good.

I got some seats from a friend who's not using the original seats in his Mercury. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1454477283.023386.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1454477318.109758.jpg

For some reason I thought the seats had bad 80's style cloth and design. Those will look bitchin in the merc! No excuses now… get that thing driving!!!

  17. That's good to know. I currently have good head room in my Merc, but it has lower seats from an '80's Buick. I have a set of stock Merc seats I plan to put in one of these days, but with them being taller, I've been worried I'd run short on head room and have to consider cutting the Merc seats down a bit.

    I'm 5 ft 10 and I got 4 inches of head room with a 3 inch chop.

Now I'm getting ready to see if I can swap a 3.31 ring and pinion out of a 87 jeep wagoner Dana 44 into the mercury's Dana 44. I've read that the carriers are different in the later Dana 44's, but visually they look the same size.

  22. Well... What's the verdict? No shop time for me this weekend, off to Vancouver WA but next week the Pontiacs gets bearings and spindles back together.

Can't get the carrier out. Tried using some pry bars but it's tight.

Here is the radio push buttons if anyone was curious what you needed to do to get them on. Need to finish sanding and get them polished. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1456556406.029299.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1456556419.996394.jpg

And this is what I did to my extra bad radio. The original power switch was burned out so I'm going to use some old pinball parts to turn it off and on. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1456556680.548224.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1456556699.914869.jpg

  28. I'd like to do a similar thing with my radio one of these days. I just have the face mounted in the dash now with the hope one of these days I'll rig up a sneaky system like that through the knobs. For now the sound system is the same that you have...amp and hook ups for my iPod but it's all external to the radio. Be nice to tuck it all in and be able to use the knobs for volume, etc. like you've done.
