Does it have a hole in the bottom end? F1 will. Casing looks more rounded than an F1. I had one out of truck, sold it but have photos of it I'll check for you.

    Maybe an early Chevy.

  5. I will keep searching. It does look chevy design wise....

  6. My friend who gave it to me is pretty sure it's out of a '50 mercury meteor. I can't find a single pic of a steering box out of a '50 mercury meteor and he picked it up a long long time ago. Any feedback?

Judging by the filler plug, and the mounting lugs, that box was intended to be mounted as it is in your vehicle. Whereas, the steering box in a '50 Meteor would have the sector shaft pointing downward, not to the side. That being the situation, it would not be configured as is yours.

I do not know what it is for sure, by my first impression was beam axle Chevrolet truck or car.

  8. I think we're getting closer here! It's a long steering column too, would that mean truck?

  9. Thanks to Hnstray, i started hunting early chev boxes and found on eBay , 1933 chevrolet master steering box parts. They match! So Far it's looking like '33 chevy...

  10. Thanks to everyone's input , it triggered a memory in my buddies brain. The box is 100% out of a 36 buick. Now I can start the hunt for a pitman arm, thanks everybody!

    Uh: You're welcome.

  13. Thanks to you too butch27. I found a pitman arm by the way but with shipping the guy wants over $300 bucks for it and I just can't bring myself to buy it.

  14. Should probably start a new thread called "I have a 36 Buick box and need affordable pitman arm ideas"

Lots of pitman arms are interchangeable from different brands. Post a clear pic of the splined end, and a measurement of the diameter of the sector shaft before the splines.

    alchemy's right.
It was Ross, Saginaw, and Gemmer making the steering boxes, NOT Ford, Buick, Chev... so they made a few different designs of pitman arms to cover a multitude of applications.
    It's a Vendors search...
We had an excellent source of pitman arms, steering masts, etc. in San Jose thru the '60s and '70s. It was L&S Power Steering. Owner Leonard had a room full of discarded steering boxes and parts. (never threw any steering part away)
There was a wall with long steel pins that had pitman arms hanging, about 30 different ones. It was 'steering box heaven'...

You should Measure up the major diameter of the spline, use a caliper. Some people hoard shit, I'm one of them. I have a lonely 1936 Chevrolet pitman arm that I kept. Your box looks familiar.
