And I am looking for 2, used frog mouth scoops, a pair of real '50 Pontiac tail lights and some original rumble seat grab handles. ABP
She's beautiful! Great job, it reminds me of the salt-flats Deuce that Paul Gommi built I saw in the May '09 Hot Rod Deluxe. You should submit the build to Hot Rod or Motortrend. http://s988.photobucket.com/user/matthewbridges/media/ScreenShot2012-09-24at21906PM.jpg.html
Yea I don't see anything wrong with them. If I was going to change anything I would chop the windshield, clean up the paint and loose the lakes style header.
The paint job has a little too much red oxide showing. Less is more. Take a look at some Rolling Bones paint jobs. Nice build.
It's a 1" chop, didn't like 2 or 3". Just my preference for driving. Headers are my favorite part, took me awhile to make. Agree on paint. Actually started to prep it for a resquirt today but got my license plate all sorted. Gotta find my red striped month sticker now.
Nice car ! I wondered about trim rings to the wheels ? Headlights look ok. As for the E &Js - take a sledge hammer to them - the world could do with less of them.
I am on the hunt for original trim rings and V8 hubcaps. Slowly replacing repop items. Just picked up some old BLCs and sold these headlights. E&Js got sold too. Had to pay for my heads, intake and second 97 somehow
Send out my distributor to Bubba's to be gone over. Pending the return of that and I can keep assembling the engine. Right now I need to make new hard lines for the fuel pump to carbs and hard line for the vacuum brake. Once that is all done and running I will begin installation of the heads. Most reason for this post is to just finalize the headlight ordeal...pulled the Speedway's and put on some old crusties that I think match the car better. Continues to be a work in progress. Just a little fine tuning at a time.
Looks really good. Don't fret about the paint dislikers: no one seemed to have a problem with it until you showed us how it came to fruition! I'll be watching to see what else you come up with. You have some sweet parts on there so far!
Firestone bias ply 7.00 in back and 5.25 in the front on 40 Ford rims. I am sort of into small details so the meat and potatoes I guess you could say is done but now I am double backing through everything to put period correct or original parts on it as well as making sure everything is mechanically sound now that it has been assembled and driven. I am going to make the treck up to TROG in October in Pismo and that will be close to a 500 mile round trip for me. So in my mind, still got lots to do! Thanks for the compliments and recommendations. It all helps as I build a long
Those are just pics I found online, but I have some of each. I'd like a full set of these (see below) and only have 3 of the 4 I need. I'm going to use the locking one (on the right) for the spare...
I have had no luck finding the embossed ones, kind of gave up on those. The debossed ones are in plenty for repops but an original set is a little harder to find. I really cant stand the FORD DELUXE ones I have now but they were available and $40 for the set, brand new. I have 2 caps with the blue FORD in the middle with a debossed rectangle around it. If I could find 2 more I would have a set of those.
Eric Justus....hello to you and your pops from Matt H aka Big Bad Orange in grey old Detroit...nice A....see a few old VW guys on here...Dave Cormack and Frenchie used to post on here all the time..
