Technical Show Me Some Dressed Up Flathead Six Cylinders

    I know we already have a thread for six cylinders here and I'm limiting my thread here because Chevys were mostly OHV engines but show me your dressed up Flathead six cylinders. Finned aluminum head, Multi carbed manifold , spilt exhaust manifolds whatever you've got.

This is a Plymouth 230 that I was building for the 41 Plymouth Coupe I had.....sold both a few yrs ago.......Edgy head, offy intake, unknown finned sideplates, Oz GM Holden Stromberg carbies,, adapted Holden water pump, modified & split cast iron exhaust manifolds, HEI & Beehive Oil Filter on original engine pic..........andyd

    That dual intake engine looks great.

    When I get back to my cantankerous '42 Fargo I want to install an Ellis 2 carb intake that I have but first need someone to advise on a couple of points. I will also install a "Spitfire" head; can't afford an Edgy one the way the CDN doLiar is right now.

    Nice lookin engine you got there.
    Can you tell us a bout it, shaved head, hot cam etc?
    Can you give me a comparison to the same car and a stock engine for get up and go and performance?
    I am about to embark on souping up my flathead 6 with George Asche goodies.......

    1938 Dodge six running triples and a hot cam etc from about 42 years ago bit of a sleeper.

    Goes good I take it, what is it like compared to stock?

  11. Bone stock right now. Home built three carb aluminum manifold and split exhaust manifold. It runs well but still a lot of tuning to do

    So with split exhaust/ or headers, these engines really should wake up when they can exhale more?
    How is it when you hit that throttle wide open, should go a lot better, on the highway...

    '47 Plymouth w/ '54 Chrysler 264ci,balanced&head cut.125 cleared for valves, Factory 2.5" '51 Dodge truck intake&exhaust,2 barrel Webbers,custom hiem linkage.

    I know and understand this is just showing off the engines. But if í may ask.... Who has changed out their original tranny to either a gm automatic or standard, and where, who did you guys get the housing/adaptors from? Again... I apologize if the question doesn't belong here. I traded my 49 Plymouth for a 51 coronet. Just finished the voltage conversion from 6 to 12. Im saving up to modify the 230 into what you guys have(shown above). But í want to start with the transmission if posible...Thanks again for your time and knowledge.

    The "spitfire" head is just a standard compression head with a cool name. No extra HP. Save your money and use what you have until you can afford to be a Edgy head.

    Are the spitfire heads shaved though? Not sure how much but, í was under the impression that they were. Giving more lift room.... I picked one up at the Pomona swap meet for 40$...

    No. Just an advertising name. You can shave/mill them if you want though,and 40 dollars is a VERY good price for one. They do look cooler than just a blank head/

    Did you install it Your self ,Or had a shop do it for you? If you did it yourself what was the biggest issue you ran into?

  28. I installed it myself and it went together easily. No problems at all but you do have to get either the bearing retainer on the T5 turned down or open up the inside diameter of the throw-out bearing holder. I took a little off both. I believe instructions are included in the kit or on the website.

    No,the Spitfire heads aren't shaved,but you can shave the one you just bought .125 if it has never been milled before. For 40 bucks you got a good deal if the head isn't warped or cracked.
