Hot Rods Banjo axle shaft lenght??

Hi all hambers, last day i broke my left axle shaft on the banjo..i'm confused about i must to measure the lenght ....i have to measure the axle complete with the gear or only the shaft...this because i was sure is a 42-48 but with 40 there is only 1'' of difference and if measure total lenght is about 34'' only the shaft about 33''.......i read the info about the lenght but i'm little confused...

Says overall length,very top line says less gear,so yeah! Measure with gear.

The one that says "less gear" is a heavy truck full floater axle and the gear is a separate part, hence the difference.

 

Every i have to learn....what's this book ?

 

Bruce..after i broke the axle shaft i buy another shaft for $45 on ebay in California...happy for the price and a good part..than i was in panic confused about i have to measure mine,now is all rigth...ready to leave from Italy to Pomona at Gnrs...where i will take the shaft i ship to my friend David Martinez...
