Does anyone know if this was an original t-bolt? This car used to run at Milan and Norwalk for years. I believe it was painted brown the last time I saw it.

Here is a photo of the same car from the next year which was 1982. Paint and hood scoop changed. Sponsored by a Dodge dealer and says 440 Chrysler powered. image.jpeg

  10. Yes, I believe the above car was the original "Hi Risers" car. It is still around in this configuration but lettered as the "Hi-Risers". The same fellow owns a clone of the original style "Hi-Risers" car too.

Why in God's good name would anyone chop this car? Bad enough it has that hideous scoop on it! Terrible thing to do to a T-Bolt!

    Hello all,

As I'm a huge fan of the Thunderbolt, I have to say that I've been reading this particular page for years.
I just wanted to say thank you as it has been both helpful and motivational as I built this.

    Colin

The mods on the HAMB take their jobs SERIOUSLY and have closed threads for violations of the format of this board. Your build uses things that are frowned upon on the HAMB. Good luck but I would hate to see this thread gone for violations.

See this thread to see what I'm talking about....

Well sometimes people just get excited and look past what they have wanting it to be something else. After doing so they believe it, rather than just being proud of the 2dr hard top. survivor they have. JMO anyway...................Al

Found some more. If anybody has objections speak out LOL.

New attention from Detroit automakers was evident in low-production models built specifically for drag racing. Whereas earlier Super Stocks consisted of actual assembly-line vehicles fortified by high-performance V-8s, Ford upped the ante by dropping dual-quad, high-riser 427s into economy-segment Fairlanes wearing lightened bodies and serious rear suspension. By November, Butch Leal was secretly testing this ’64 Thunderbolt at Lions.

Found a few more I have not seen before.

Ford's racing group wanted to put 427-powered Fairlanes in the lineup for Grand National racing. When NASCAR said no, Ford promptly set loose its Medium Riser Fairlanes on dragstrip tarmac. Here Drake Viscome gets a hat in his Vindicator SS/C Thunderbolt.

Super Stock classes created lots of buzz in the sport, and encouraged car manufacturers to build factory drag cars, such as the Ford Thunderbolt. This is the infamous Strip Teaser owned by Thomas Esso Oil Company and driven by Howard Neal. Small-time drag racers were soon touring the country on the Super Stock and match race circuits.
