Just as Bud Hinman, the cars original builder has told me! 759/16 truck tires in the rear and 550/16 motorcycle tires in the front....and so begins the cars restoration. For those that have been following this thread, I plan on restoring it as a combonation of when Bud Hinman first built it... and how his buddy built it into what it is today, a few years later. It will be the original pale green color that it always has been, black chassis.... and yes it will have a leaopard print interior! That is what it has always had, according to Bud Hinman. It will retain the Flathead, wild suicide front end, wide 5 wheels and just about everything else that it has. I plan on repairing any of the welds that require it, but leaving the chassis pretty mutch as it is... aside from sandblasting and paint ..... it has survived all these years and will survive many more!

  5. Just found the thread. I missed it for a long time! Very cool.
So is the idea to make it a street legal cruiser? That would be too cool.

I have a Roadster that was built in the mid 60s 68%20cover%20rc[1].gif
It is the orange one. Nice car but old technology.
You could not drive it very far with out something braking. Spent more time in the garage than it did on the road. I have owned it for 42 years. It has gone through some changes.
Here is what it looks like now.

Cool car! Luckily for me... I own a Hot Rod shop that specializes in building reliable, traditional hot rods, using all old technology and period correct vintage parts...here is a few pics of recent builds! IMG_3612.PNG IMG_3988.PNG IMG_1657.PNG IMG_3990.JPG

Cool thread! That car went to the right person.

  23. HAVE NO IDEA HOW I MISSED THIS ONE BACK WHEN FIRST POSTED....BUT JUST WENT THROUGH THE COMPLETE 6 PAGES AND MAY I SAY THIS IS THE KOOLEST OLD HOT ROD TO COME DOWN THE PIKE FOR A LONG TIME. I AM GLAD YOU ARE THE NEW CARETAKER AND I LIKE THE DIRECTION YOU ARE TAKING IT.
CAN'T EVEN THINK HOW KOOL THIS KID WAS AT 13 TO BUILD SOMETHING LIKE THIS. MOST OF US WERE STRIPPING OUR BIKES APART TRYING TO MAKE THEM GO FASTER AND HE WAS BUILDING A REAL HOT ROD.
KEEP THIS STORY COMING AND PLEASE POST PHOTOS OF THE BUILD FOR ALL OF US TO DROOL OVER.......SURE HOPE TO SEE IT SOME DAY IN PERSON.
BY THE WAY YOUR SHOP IS BAD ASS KOOL.

Is that the flatty you plan to run? Looks like you need a different intake to space the carbs further apart.
Keep posting pics as you are working on it please.

Great find & like your "restore" plan. At 13 I was trying to get card to hit bike spokes just right. Questions: what was original grille shell? did it have a hood? what was firewall & what will you put there, anything? What/how did original build use for floor? It would have made sense for just flat steel but he used barrel shape & looks like driveshaft cover welded to floor to make stronger - did he start with piece already bent? Great that you can interview/pump original builder for info - get it all & feed us please - screw the naysayers. Love car, your shop & builds.

Just saw this thread. That is so cool you got the info from the original builder. I totally agree with your plan. Looks like you know what to do to make things right.Post pictures so we can check the progress out.
