1946-1948 Plymouth gauges were all rectangular, probably Dodge, Chrysler, and DeSoto as well. Look on that famous e-bid site, and you just might find a set right now for under $100.

I've got the original gauges. I wanted new ones taht run by wire. I don't want oil leaking into my interior if one fails, I don't want a capillary tube to run the temp gauge, etc., etc. Thanks anyway.

    Hey,
Do you have a dash clock available from a 1940 or 1941 Plymouth?

    Thanks,

I know this thread is several years old but Im going to go 12 volt on my 46 Ply and use voltage reducers on the original ampmeter and gas gauge.. Of corse the oil pressure and temp are mechanical so the dash will be all original.

don't want to be the source of bad info, but I read someplace where it doesn't matter if you feed 6 or 12 volts to a gas gauge system, as long as the tank unit and the gauge are correct for the system.

I hooked my '40 Chrysler gauge and tank unit up to 12v on the bench and after some fidgeting around, it worked.

    anyone know for a fact?

there's also the type of ammeter that uses a loop of metal where the wire from the generator to the battery is simply routed through the loop, and the gauge reads the correct amps. if the needle goes the wrong direction, feed the wire the opposite way through the loop.
