Has anyone heard of the Camarillo Speed Bowl? I'm starting disassembly on a 1963 Impala SS 409 dual 4-barrel car and under the dash I found this ticket. Google came up with nothing, and nothing on here.
it was a quarter mile dirt oval in Oxnard Calif. behind the Wagon wheel bowl at Buckaroo ave. off the 101 highway.
Did a GoogleMaps.Com search, and it looks like it could now be a small gravel/demo yard; prime real estate for sure! Cool story so far, but, "you're going to need a bigger shop", to steal a line from some movie about a big shark. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Na, small is just fine. I'm gonna do everything myself (save for the engine and trans rebuild). Full restoration
They just demo'ed that hole area. They dozed the bowling alley just in the last year. It has looked like a crack shack for a few years now. All tagged up so now it will be just another strip mall is apartments.
I believe the only tracks in that area were Oxnard Speedway and the Carpinteria Thunderbowl, and a short lived track track named T-Car Raceway (or similar) in the city of Buellton, Ca.. I've never heard of Camarillo Speedbowl.
Hello, The burnt out ticket size could not have more letters than an A. Look at the outside dimensions. I love mysteries, so, just by chance, I typed in Amarillo Speed Bowl and this is what I found. It fits perfectly. Jnaki Amarillo Speed Bowl is a 1/4 mile semi-banked clay oval located near Amarillo, Texas. It has not operated in some time. http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/TX/AmarilloSpeedBowl.html#TrackFacts
Good eye BJR, I did not see your post until after I searched... Thanks, Jnaki Tom, those were the only two that I remember, too.
