I remember someone on here who built a beautiful black Merc custom from a pile. Who was that?

Lotta babble and not many pics, kids??
This is a car a buddy of mine , Manny Novo, is just finishing up ( picture is OF a picture from 3 years ago)
Ford rear 1/4's with a Caddy hood for the back, hand built cowl and dash, custom frame, nail head motor with a blower and 6 deuces.I have newer pictures, but they're lost in hyper space .
Name of the car is the "Moon-Pie" I believe most of the parts for the body were donated or sold at a very reasonable price because when the owner of the junkyard found out what was being done with them, he figured my buddy was off his rocker. Not the case. Camera 11-28-09 066.jpg

Maybe not a "custom" in the true sense but.........Same guy, same junkyard- made up of 3 different bodies, a Dodge, a Plymouth, and a Willys. ( I think)
Same approach- carried out in pieces and transformed into a cool car he drag raced. ( Can you guess the build date?)
ENTIRE project done in his driveway! ( by him)

This might not fit the thread parameters exactly, but you have to give the guy credit for a pretty amazing build.

Possibly the lead topic could have been more accurate if it had been "Customs built with/from Cast offs" My new cab for my 48 uses parts of three cabs two of which were given to me to haul off at one time or another and one that came as part of a two truck purchase for 100.00 where I bought two 1-1/2 tons without engines for 100.00 a few years ago. I spent three times that getting them home though.
Somewhere I have photos of the sectioned 59 Ford known as My Blue Heaven from when it was first under restoration that I took at Unfinished Nationals years ago. A lot of the original custom work on that car was really suspect and the gent who redid it spent a lot of time making it right when he did it.

One of my favorite "saves". It's amazing how good it looked when done, considering the fact the metal must have been completely f#cked up by the heat. Pisser car.

"Finnrodder"-I've got to move them from my e-mail acct. Going to be in Mass. any time soon?? (HaHa)
I'll get one of my kids to help me ASAP.

It looks alright in the photo but it was rusted and bent to hell. I got it complete, and have so far replaced the frame, the entire lower 4" of the car inside and out, firewall,1 whole quarterpanel ,1 wheelwell and the stock pressings on both wheelwells, made trunk supports, lower A and B pillars, subrails, converted a sedan fender it came with to coupe, replaced the grill, all 3 of the other fenders AFTER straightening them but they were too thin at that point.hopefully i can finish the metalwork in 2016.

  18. @Torchie that thing rules! I've always wanted to build a pickup with a 41 car nose. I even collected a whole nose to start with. It may happen or it never will. Yours looks fantastic!

It is prolly off topic but, I built the trike to look like it would have been built in the 60's. 1954 Harley service car frame. Crosley engine trans and rear end. Front forks extended with 40 ford wishbones and a hand laid fiberglass body painted candy tangerine ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1449771025.776411.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1449771068.423562.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1449771103.855641.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1449771151.157494.jpg

I usually work with pieces of cars (junk). It makes it more of a challenge, more interesting. My build thread ends up with the mostly green Bantam in the photos below after it began with the pieces of a car (it was a car, it had a title!) in the other photos. I was thinking about this thread and looked it up to see if anyone had added to it. Has anyone made a body from late model sheet metal AKA the Thom Taylor renderings where he took muscle car replacement panels and rendered them into awesome hot rods.?
