Technical Help identifying Ford rear disc brakes

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by NorthernILtbucket, Nov 15, 2015.

  1. Would anyone like to try to help me identify the attached pictures of Ford rear disc brakes? They are on my newly acquired T-bucket and I am trying to order parking brake cables. I do not know the exact rear end that is in the car. They have a stamp of 802L and a small 31 0n them. Thanks for any help you could provide.

if the wheel bolt pattern is (or originally was) 5 on 4.5" then they are probably Granada/Versaille brakes. If the wheel bolt pattern is/was 5 on 5" then they are probably late 70s full size Lincoln Mark or Continental brakes.

If you take off the wheel and take a few pics from the other side, we could get a better looksee.

Which ever they are, probably doesn't matter for cables. Think late 70s Lincoln.

I had that rear in a off topic car(first gen camaro) and we chose not to use the emergency brake. There was trouble with them not releasing I believe. I just put a roll pin to lock the cam lever, and didnt use emer. brake.

  4. I went to pull the wheel over the week end and discovered my drive extension(s) was short and I didn't have any more. Stand by and I will post pictures as soon as I find time to pick one up.

  5. Finally found some time to pull the wheels. Here are some pictures of the other side. 4-1/2" centers. Thanks for any help you have to offer. 20151226_122350.jpg 20151226_122417.jpg 20151226_122454.jpg 20151226_122559.jpg 20151226_122618.jpg

Post #2, above... @squirrel has it right, I believe. Including the part about that design/model being troublesome to maintain.

Need to measure the piston size to confirm.
    54mm Versailles
    66mm Mark V

  8. Sure looks like Versailles/Monarch/Granada rear disc. The parking brake is required to maintain the adjustment of the piston. You need to pull the parking brake every so often to move the piston out as the pads wear. It is not really a good design as the newer styles with the small internal shoe drum brake style parking brake. Such as the 8.8 Ford rearends use. But if you have it now, it can work. Just keep the parking brake. The piston in the caliper also has to be turned back in, not pushed in. Because of that parking brake thing to adjust the piston inside the caliper.
I had that exact rearend in my old 38 Chevy. It's a big bearing 9-inch with 28 spline axles. About 58.5 inches wide at the wheel mounting surface. Leaf spring from factory.
