Either this photo has been colorized or it hasn't rained in SoCal since that shot was taken.
My last trip down there, I never saw the grass looking that green.

    Gary,
Could that be Lordstown OH.? The reason I ask is that I don't recall Camaro/Firebirds being built in Van Nuys till 68. The Camaro that I have is an L.A. built 69, the 67 Firebird that I had was built in Lordstown, Later the 68's were built in Norwood OH., That one appears to be a 67, so it's kinda throwing me offo_O.

Cruisin' was a blast! In Portland we did Broadway and 82nd, hundreds of cars, fun and GIRLS! Cruising is extinct now due to drugs, guns, crappy cars and irresponsible, violent and inconsiderate people. Like a LOT of the past, IT SURE WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED!

I think Chris Kidd's "Tired Iron Works" restored this car about 10 years ago in Monrovia, Last place I saw it was at The Petersen. A Phenomenal Car......

I have no idea, just took the pic off the web!

  10. It's raining right now! SoCal is the desert, people forget that. The water that's here comes from up north through the aqueduct, if it wasn't for that it would be sand and sagebrush!

I'm not quite feeling your pain Gary, at least you are reasonably sure the sun is going to come back out again!!!!!.
That raft at Andy and Bax is sounding pretty good right about now.

When I was a kid in the mid/late 60's, I got all the car magazines and use to see all the goin's-on you lucky strokes had to witness first hand, now you gotta rub my nose in it!
Not sure which one, maybe Popular Hot Rodding mag, it was either Van Nuys or Whittier Blvd, they always had those cool night time street scene shots of tri-five Chevys and all the musclecars of the day. That was my Disneyland in print.

  14. Ha! The raft was pretty cool, even had a shelter with walls and a roof on it!
I spent 33 soggy years in Oregon. Glad to have grown up there and still love it. I do love California too and the weather is a big reason for that!
Throw in the beaches, Famosa Drag Strip and all the other fun stuff and it far outweighs ( in my book) the bad stuff.
Ill send some sun your way for Xmas.
By the way, windy enough for ya?
    ;)

  16. I saw that! Now that's breezy! 22 consecutive days of rain! I'll take Cal!
As my Mom used to say, "That's what keeps Oregon green!".

I believe that the mention above to "Hollywood Stars" referred to the professional baseball team that played in a stadium near what is now the CBS studios near the corner of Beverly Blvd. and Fairfax Ave.

The flooding was far worse than these pictures show, but most photos from the time don't have a vehicle in the shot, so I can't post them.

  22. Yep. Spent A LOT of time there, had lot's of fun and met some girls too! Hippie days! Better not incur the wrath of the mods though. It's amazing how few pics there are of that place in that era. Hundreds of thousands of pics were taken, I remember people shooting all day long, every day.
