So about 40 years ago My dad had a 58 Ford Fairlane, 2 dr.. was doing a mild restoration on it, had cragar mags on it, all the cool stuff, him and my grandfather had primed it and were about to paint it a beautiful blue. They had the paint picked out, were going to shoot it, and one night off Airline Dr here in Houston Texas a drunk driver crossed the line and hit him head on rolling about 50 to 60mph. Destroyed the car, put the motor in the car with him, Pushed the front end back to the firewall. My pops broke the steering wheel with his face, lost all his front teeth with this also. Months of recovery, and healing etc. He made it through. Was stiched up with no anesthetic, he is a tough guy.. So many years later I have heard this story more than a few times. I found a 58 Ford fairlane and a 60 fairlane. It was a 2 car deal only .... no separating. I bought both of them... and gave him his car. So here we were with a very rough but somewhat complete 58 fairlane.. I sold the 60 off a few months later. The 58 sat in storage for 2 years. was a dream but not yet obtainable. Mom had a 91 Lincoln she had driven up till 2006, then parked... so in 2010 I decided it was time.... I pulled the 58 home. ripped the motor out of the Lincoln, and dropped it in the Fairlane in a few hours while they were out. So as a supprise for his 60 birthday he came over and into the garage to find his car, with a motor in it. After some work we got it fired off.. Over the months we did some rust repair, full trunk replacement, rear panel, hood, fenders etc we took off a parts car we picked up. Got him on the road, he drove it around in flat black for a while. Then decided it was time for paint... and BODY... I am not a body guy by any stretch of the imagination. I know my limits. So brought it to a local shop and had them start having the fun. Over almost 2 yrs, its now plumb crazy purple, done interior also... Some nice custom touches here and there. Wide whites, chrome reverse wheels, swapped the 8" rear for a 9" ford. 91 302 roller motor, with edelbrock intake and carb, holley red pump feeding it, factory headers, AOD trans, Lokar shifter.. Will get more Pics soon but here is a few to give you some idea. This was when we stripped off the trim before taking it to the shop.
When I read Plum Crazy Purple I was ready to hate it- much to my surprise it works with the silver top and stainless- nice job-

Yes, this puzzled me too. Unless someone swapped it out before you got it, it should have already had one in it since they came out in 57.
Yeah. I guess someone swapped it out before we got it. Thanks guys. He loves it. That's what matters. Figured I would share with you guys since we're nearing the end of its build and now it's time for him to drive it
Nice job on taking care of your pops. Spend some time with him now as the end sneaks up on ya before you know it.
Looks cool! You think it still needs something? spots,antennas,lowered??? I dont know, maybe its just my ideals.
