My 32 I bought in early 2014. Survived a lot, but is Von Franco's Tiki Deuce that Hot Wheels made into the Tiki collector set in the 90s. In black primer, but will likely repaint.

This is the way I got my roadster in 2011. Built in Los Angeles county. Built and painted in 1958 or 59. Check out the split axle front end that didn't work.

A clean garage is the sure sign of a sick mind!

  15. My old gennie 5W coupe was built in St. Paul, MN and spent most of its life just blocks from the factory with its original owner. After his death it ended up in a hayloft on a farm all apart until it was rescued by Greg Tschida in the 80's. It got a repaint and reassembled with all its original parts, including the original 21 stud V-8. Greg sold it and lost track of it until I found it 15 years ago in Missouri. I won't change it because it deserves to stay like it was all those years.

My cabriolet survived against the odds after it spent almost 40 years (since 1955) being the home for a tree on a farm near Cherry Hills, CO (which is now a big buck suburb near Denver). Ted Bowen chased this car for almost 40 years until he finally bought it in the late 90's and rescued it from the giant tree that kept it there all those years. He had to cut it in half to get it away from the tree's death grip. I bought it from Ted a few years later in two pieces and Tom Bay put it back together for me. It had been an old channeled jalopy racer that had the original windshield frame hacked off. Tom fabbed the windshield back together with a 2 3/4" chop and pulled it back a bit. Here's a pic of its rescue and the way it sits today.

My projects have all been all on hold since I spent the last 5 years moving and building a house and garage in Prescott but I'm ready to get back to work on them.

It's been documented in another thread but for a brief period I was the caretaker of the "York Coupe” which is a magnificent piece of genuine 50s hot rodding history and a time capsule as well as it has remained largely unchanged since it was built in 1957 including the paint. This car was built by Glen “Rudy” Rudisill and his father at his father’s shop in York, PA, G.E. Rudisill & Sons in 1957.

The body was channelled over a Z’d frame and a ’49 Mercury dash was installed, 40’s Ford brakes were used. Fenders were cropped or bobed and the car was painted blue, same paint as it is now. The Hemi engine, ’52 Chrysler 331 cu in.
On 12-18-06 Laverne “Stetz” Stetzer, (Red Lion, PA) bought the 5-window body, frame and wheels for $225 at a junkyard in Marietta, PA in 1957. Then came the ’49 Mercury dash, the ’49 deep well steering wheel, Chrysler engine, ’37 Hudson Terraplane steering box and an unknown gas tank. The top was filled with a ’49 Plymouth station wagon rear roof section that took Stetz about two days to cut out by hand.

The rear fenders were fabricated by York Corrugating Co. to fit the contour of the rear wheel openings. Stetz thought possibly the front fenders were originally motorcycle type fenders. The fire-wall was fabricated using ¼” cold rolled steel and two master cylinders were attached for the clutch and brakes. All metal work was smoothed by Rudy (father or son) using the old lead method. Wheels and tires were from the 50’s era. The paint used on the car was GM Bahama Blue Metallic.

Sadly the guy I sold it to sold it to someone who decimated it, stripped off it's gorgeous rear fenders and added zoomies (criminal) and plopped it on eBay for sale - broke my heart when I saw it. Even though people's cars are their's to do with what they wish, I can't bring myself to look at the pictures of what they did to it but here are some pics of it's history plus a few of when I owned it. It was a beautiful car that had survived many decades so even though it's not a "survivor" in it's original condition any more it most certainly would've been had I still owned it.

Aren't they all survivors whether you can trace their history or not?

  24. I'm still in the "old man has a dream stage" but this is what I'm shooting for. It seems a lot of us

are on the same page with Alfred Berton's '32 Cabriolet from 1955. Did you see Ryans blog post on it a
    few months back? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=26104
I've been collecting parts like the side glass stainless channels and my buddy John is making me
the folding top irons for it. One of these days or years I'll get it going..........

    Teach me, I'm ignorant.

What classifies a car as a survivor? I've been seeing lots of them Pop up. Is it simply a car that has survived the elements or the cruel human hand?
