Does anyone make drop spindles for this application? I have not been able to find any. Drop spindles seem like the easiest way to lower the front end if available?
The 55 Chev Truck came from the factory with a straight axle, do you mean getting the axle dropped? If it has spindles on it now it has been modified, you will have to know what has been installed to match up for the spindles that are required.
They used to make a dropped axle, don't think they have been available for years. If there is anyone who drops (reforges) axles for Fords they may be able to do a Chev one for you.
I have found springs that provide 2.5-3" of drop, not sure about the pro's and con's of using a dropped axle vs. changing the leaf springs to get the drop
when a person speaks of dropped spindles it is actually the spindle upright that is dropped rather than the spindle itself.
Spring alterations will only decrease travel, which is already limited. Dropped axle is the way to go ...
You should probably look under the front end and first determine the make up of your front end....axle vs. independent.......and go forward from there.
No one makes a dropped spindle for a straight axle. The stock axle can be dropped any amount up to 4" overstock. As for springs. If you buy a 3" dropped spring. 3" is the amount of drop you will get from when the truck was brand new the day it rolled out of the factory. Over the years with amount of use or how hard it was used the springs get tired and settles. So if you buy a 3" dropped spring your not going to get 3" of drop. Depending on the brand usually you will get a better ride. I'm a dealer for Posies. On the average we usually get about 2" drop out of a 3" spring on the front. www.droppedaxles.com
