New to everything here and I decided to document my project, it's progress and pictures of it along the way. My name is Brian, I'm 28 years old and I live in Reno, Nevada. Around the beginning of November my dad told me that if I wanted it and had a desire to work on it, he'd give me his 54' Chevy 2 door, it was his first car. He got it when he was 16 years old. That was back in 1973. For the last 22ish years it's been sitting at his business as you can see in the first set of pictures all of which were taken around the beginning of November, weather and time weren't doin it any favors. I will update and post more pictures as I progress.
Hello from Carson city. Welcome to the H.A.M.B. Looks like a big project. So what's the scoop? Did it run when parked? Is everything all there?
Ok so about a week ago I borrowed a flatbed car hauler from my employer and went out and picked it up from my dads business. Got it in my garage and everything. A buddy came over and we were gonna see if we couldn't get it to run, even if only for a minute. Oil looked ok, it had anti freeze in it still. Spark plugs were a little black. However, the carburetor was quite dirty and one of the wires that connects to the battery was corroded to the point that it needs to be replaced so turning it over got postponed. I will update, maybe even with a video when I hopefully get it goin. Forgot to mention: engine is the typical 235 6 cylinder, engine is not the original engine that was in the car. It was replaced with an engine of the same kind about 25-30 years ago. Transmission is a manual 3 on the tree. Still playing with ideas as far as my goals for the car. Any input/ideas would be much appreciated
Hi there, thanks. It did run. 20 years ago my dad had hopes of restoring it and really making it into a nice cruiser but family and work got in the way. Except for some missing lug nuts, no hood ornament/emblem and the trunk emblem everything is there. It has all the trim however some of that trim has dents and will likely need to be replaced, he even had an extra front and rear bumper. My goal is to have it at least 90 percent done in 5 years so my dad can drive it to his next high school reunion. I say 90 percent because I kinda expect to always be tinkering with it in some way.
Looks like it's going to be a fun project. You have 8 months till the rockabilly riot (moved to Carson city for 2016) and 10 months till hot august nights. So get to it!
Nice! Get it running and reliable Restore brakes Swap rims (and tires) Change the trashed glas ...then...drive it
Thanks everybody I'm currently battling the flu right now, but later this week I'm going to be taking the the carb off to clean it, also get a battery and try to get it running. Might even get a a carb rebuild kit for it just so I can get the thing running
This will be neat to watch! I have a 54 I pulled apart in 2007 and never worked on it but it's time is coming!
