Does anyone have any information on drag strips around Omaha, Neb in the late 60's early 70's? I am looking for any information on the car in the picture.

I remember watching it run Omaha in the mid to late 70s. Loved the M/P class. Sorry I dont know much about the car itself just remember it. It brought a smile to my face.

That first photo looks like it may be from the old Cornhusker Raceway here in Omaha. I believe it was only in operation during the late '60s and early '70s.

Here's another photo of the car when it raced up at Thunder Valley Dragway near Marion, SD
    Info from Tom Olsen:
From Thunder Valley Dragways, Marion, SD, here's Dick Gordon's 56 Chevy out of Omaha, NE. Gordon was always a tough contender in the Modified Production ranks with this car. Just to the left is my old 56 Chevy wagon running as a stocker.

Another photo of the car from 1972:
David Gochanour's dad owned it at that point.

I found these photos and info on the Cornhusker Raceway Facebook page, if you happen to have access to that:

He is an Attorney I think in the Omaha area. He helped the MVTA when they reopened Scribner in78 or 79.

  8. You know it's just cool to see a old drag race car that ran at one of the top drag strips here in South Dakota. I guess the thing about this car is it looks like a driven street car rather then a totally full blown drag car. Yes it would be awesome to find out if the car is still in tack or if it was put back on the street. I love the Colors, it give it that watch out I going to kick your A33 attitude, one nice looking 56 Chevy Hardtop.

Just read your post, a bit late, but anyway. Your profile picture looks like Cornhusker Raceway Park - Omaha - about 1969 or 70

I recall the 56 might have raced MP in Omaha at the old Omaha Dragway....maybe 1967 ? But later, I'm sure, a couple of years at Cornhusker in about 1968-69. It was the same gold/bronze paint then.
A guy named Dick Gordon owned it. Seems like it was a father/son deal ? It was really clean as I recall.
I didn't really know them. They ran MP, and I was "Slack & Humphrey" white 56 Chevy 2dr Jr Stocker (raced at Omaha Dragway)

How did the car end up in Penn.?

Thank you to everyone that has provided information on the history of the car. It is all very exciting. The H.A.M.B. is awesome!!! There was an article in Popular Hot Rodding on the car and the son/father team running it. I have it on the way from Ebay :) Long story on how the car ended up in PA. My Gram moved out to Omaha from PA in the early 70's. Dad would go out and visit. Had decided to go out and stay a while, went to trade school (UTI) for auto mechanic and then worked out there for a bit. Met my mom there :). He was out looking for a car to buy (some sort of hot rod) and was actually looking at a Chevelle, '69 I believe, when he came across the '56. He was hooked! Went and borrowed some money and the next thing he was tearing around Omaha for the next year or so in it. Decided to move back home to PA and brought the car with and she has been here ever since.

2 pictures below I took of the car this weekend. The Showell's sticker (bottom right corner of trunk lid) and Omaha, Nebr. are still on it.

Also, Dad said about a man by the name of Dwayne Bone (not sure of spelling) working on the car a lot for Dick and his dad. After Dad bought the car he took it to Dwayne to help work on the engine and Dwayne said to dad 'would you like to know more about this car'. lol.
So if anyone knows about a Dwayne Bone that would be great!
