Hm, that's actually the car that replaced the one from the McGurk wreck. I don't think they had much in common, 'cept for the engine which was soon replaced by an Offy anyway.

But that's definitely not Terre Haute. With the hill it looks a little like Eldora to me but even that doesn"t look right.

Quick basic answer is a sprinter is nominally 86" wheelbase while a midget is 72".
These dimensions are current and date back to the 30's.

The sprinter would use 15" wheels while the midgets were all 12" up until probably about mid to late 50's when the 13"started to take over and that is what is being run today.

 

I don't think Terra Haute either indyrjc. New bremen? Certainly not an east coast track. I have been wrong in the past however and bow to Rootie the magnificant on his decree!

 

Jim, in 1966 USAC also ran at tracks like Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City) and at Cumberland Speedway in Maryland. Could this photo be from one of those tracks?

Rootie any information about 1964 I.M.C.A. sprint car races my uncle drove this sprinter that year .Thanks

 

He was not mentioned in reports of the Winchester May 10 races, qualified 35th (too slow) for the Little 500 May 23, and was again not mentioned May 31 at West Virginia International Speedway (I have top 24 qualifiers). Next race was Winchester again June 7, and it is my guess that the team returned to the coast, since he was no longer mentioned in previews. Pittman's car (later affectionately known as "Old Betsy") returned to NARC (July 4 Calistoga with Bill Hofeldt) or CRA competition (September 5 Hanford with Giusti), I'm not sure.

By the way, is it Giusti or Guisti, which can be found here and there in reports - there was an Adolph Guisti racing very successfully in Central California in the mid-twenties.

 

It's Giusti they always mispronounced it he started with roadsters in the 40's and was really good in hardtops at Stockton and West Capitol in the 50's and in 1960 won the Gold Cup had a bad wreck at Clovis broke his neck then started driving Super Modifieds and in 64-65 drove sprints for Pittman and Ernie Ruiz in the Travel on Trailer but at 47 he wasn't what he was a little too old and don't think as fast as when he was younger. How about the old Tulsa Fairgrounds Speedway where USAC also ran in 1966? Does anyone here have any info on that one?

 

I went back through the Ultimateracing.com archives to see if the Unser photo could be figured out.

Looks like a spring race, everybody wearing jackets and the track looks like it just thawed out. Only date that fits is Eldora April 3, 1966.

Good logic, Jim. So you are very likely correct. The thing that got me was the staggered wall in the background but I guess that must have changed over the years. And the hill does look right.
