The 318 & 360 are balanced different so the 318 converter wouldn't have worked.

I'd love to see a picture heavymetal. I'm at the wiring on my project too.

George I was going to use a aftermarket flex plate that was balanced so that I could use a 318 torque converter on a 360. I think it was from B&M. The reason I didn't use it was the bolt pattern was wrong on the converter. It mounted to the later converters and mine was an earlier one. I got it out of a diplomat at the junk yard, someone dropped a 360 in it and needed it to mount the later 904 to it.

The desoto project has been slow this summer. The wiring is the only thing I've worked. The dash is wired the heater is wired, I've got all the wires ran to their places. The engine is mostly wired. I finally got my caliper brackets, so I'll start working on that.
I was going to use a Dakota rear end, but instead I want to find a rear out of a B-body for it. 1413249202525.jpg

The Explorer axle is the similar width, same bolt pattern, obviously newer, generally cheaper (at the pick-n-pull) and easier to get parts for. The disc brakes are a bonus.

It nice to see a '55 DeSoto getting the love. The grill is awesome. I have a complete '55 DeSoto Sportsman for sale if you know anyone that's looking for a 2dr with a HEMI project.

Thanks 73RR, I've heard that, but I'm one of those crazy guys that try to keep it all in the same brand. I decided on a 8 3/4 because I've thought about overdrive in the future, and I could easily swap the third member for one that will fit the overdrive.

Not really. I've been working on a car for a friend all summer. I hope to get back on it.
