    Looked on vanpelt's site and I thin k this is a 41 trans. Am I correct? image.jpeg

  2. I can't read all the numbers and @Bruce Lancaster is my go to guy when it comes to obsolete ford and numbers specifically. A lot of guys look at the shifter tower, but I think that only ball parks you, they were the same basic tranny from '39 on as I recall.

Anyway this will prime the pump for ya and maybe Bruce is on line this morning. ;)

529 first digits? Seems that's 1940? Is it from a cabover truck? The Y makes me wonder. 3 speed or 4? Column shift or floor?

Y was worked into Fordspeak in various ways for cabover stuff, but this can't have anything to do with that because those got the huge 4 speed box.

image.png image.png From the numbers it comes from a 41 car with model #11a.

  10. Cars and pickups were in the same serial number series. In '40 and later, cars got the sideshifter case for a 3 on the tree and pickups used the 78- case that came out in '37 for floor shift, unless the pickup was ordered with optional column shift, in which case it would have gotten the side shifter case used on '40-'48 cars. Going by the numbers and the floor shift, the trans was originally in a '40 pickup.
