The '60 Starliner and the '63 1/2 Fastback (w/427) are my favorites. Always thought that this roofline was the great-uncle of the Starliner top:

George, I KNOW you gotta have the Popular Hot Rodding issue with this car in it - There was also an FE powered '56 Ford in the same issue.

John Vermeersch's '61 Cammer powered one is tops, there was also a Cammer powered white over red '64 in Des Moines IA back in the early '80s that was sweet.

Favorite Galaxie? '63 1/2 fastback, always wanted but have never had one yet. Made a trade on one for a 68 El Camino, the guy with the Galaxie wised up the next day and backed out, consolation prize was a '66 Satellite that he knew of. Most notable thing on that trip was the Elco broke down on the way to the trade, and the Plymouth broke down on the way home! (it turned out to be a great car tho..)

This was our family car in 1966, and yes, I cut a coil out of the front springs to get it down in front.

I went on the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, L.A. to Mt. Clemens Michigan in 97, John had a cammer powered 61 Ford woodie wagon and was pulling a boat trailer with a SOHC powered boat.
I know John's from Mich. but don't recall where we picked him up on the tour.
It was quite a sight to see.

I've heard a few, nothing, nothing sounds like a SOHC Ford.
Honestly, I don't recall if I heard Johns' car running.

We hated the '60 when it arrived. Everybody called it the anteater. A '60 Chevy want-a-be if ever there was one. Even the Starliner roof line was Impala-ish to us kids. Never-the-less, my aunt had one with a 352 Cruis-O and my little sister inherited it. White Starliner with red interior. Wish I had it now. It has improved with age. Like me. I remember driving it from Las Vegas to LA one night and the 352 would sustain 100 mph happily. The heater was broke and we froze.

I'm amazed at that. I loved the '60 Starliner immediately, and have always thought that the '60 Impala looked like an imitation '59 made on a sheet metal brake.

True all. We were Ford kids and hated the Chevy's even more. But to us it looked like Ford was doing it's best to go down the Chebby style road. Poorly. And the sales numbers confirmed it. It was '62 406 motor that started to get us back on board, and the 63 1/2 made us proud again.

Seeing Mike Griggs' 61 Starliner in the pages of American Rodder back in 1993 blew my 18-year-old mind as I'd never really seen any other Galaxies than the 1963-1964 models up to that point. I eventually found my own (shown covered in dust in my profile) and will some day get it roadworthy. Ar 1 (1024x692).jpg Ar 2 (1024x727).jpg
