Technical 1953 chevy 1/2 ton truck. NEED HELP

I need to know if a 1975 1/2 ton truck "ifs" suspension fit onto a 1953 chevy truck. I have the 75 truck frame that I can take the IFS off. I just need to know if anyone out there has done this swap?

I've got an 80 suspension under my truck. Like others said, it's too wide but with wheel offset and narrow tires it looks a little better.

Here it is right now, I think I can gain more clearance by switching to a 5" wide front wheel instead of the 6"s that are on there.

 

A lot of work putting another frame under that. Why even bother. You can accomplish whatever you want with an original frame and an IFS addition.

 

That's what I would do if I could do it all over again.

Never done a late model swap on one but I have used '62 Truck suspension under one. it works real well.

Does it bolt right in or must you weld on a clip?

Mustang II makes them sit and drive well. Why use anything else? Spend the $1200 and install it yourself.

 

Speedway Motors sells a bolt in kit if you don't have access to a welder

 

The 70's truck suspension and cross member unbolts from the original frame, and is close to the correct size to bolt to the AD pickup frame, usually only needing a couple of 1/2 inch spacers. The assembly is
much wider than the original however. The 70's cross member can be narrowed instead of using spacers
also narrowing the tie rod linkage etc. which would help with the width if coupled with narrow/ offset wheels. It will somewhat limit how low you can set the truck height. It will probably cost you as much
to rebuild the front end, brakes, and install lowered spindles to get a decent ride height as to install a
mustang 11 or other front end option, and there are bolt on cross members available for the mustang 11
if the bolt on aspect of the 70's truck suspension is the primary appeal. I know not everyone can weld.

 

Does it hurt to have it one inch overall wider than stock? I have a frame from a 1975 1/2 ton that I can use. I also can weld if it is better to cut out one inch. Is it a problem welding on the tie rod linkage? Thanks Dave

Very nice install. It looks great. I'm trying to use up some of my parts around the house if I can before having to spend any more money. Are you able to use your stock steering column with the mII install?

 

Agreed. Must2. Preferably weld in. I installed two of them. Very easy and you will not believe the handling difference. I would never buy a vehicle that had a bastard front clip hanging off of it.

Compare the sheetmetal price to this outfit. Bought mine from them years ago. Don't know if they are still competitive.

You take the '62 Cross member and mount it in the AD truck then you have to fab and weld tabs for the upper A arm. This is as close as I recall it has been 40 years and no one was clipping them back then. Clipping one is pretty much Newstalgia.

I do recall that it was easy squeezy.
