Hot Rods '32 5 WINDOW DRAG COUPE BUILD

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kustom Linez, Apr 19, 2015.

  1. Hi guys,

Just about to start building my drag coupe and have a quick question.

    Will a 390 Cad flywheel fit a 371 Olds?

Here are a few pics of what I'm building.

    Cheers! -Ryan

  2. I do know that the 371 is externally balanced and requires a specific 371 flywheel. As for the Cad I do not know but Tony or others would. Tony is driving back from TX so he will be out of the shop for a bit. Others may chime in.

A "32" Drag Coupe? Yesssss! And now for something TOTALLY different! You ARE The Man! This one's going right to the top of the "watched" list, brother.

  8. Well turns out I ended up going with a 1958 392 Hemi in the end!

  9. I sent a lot of time in the mock up phase working out how to set up the frame.

Then into it with the hole saw! still have to finish the lightening process.

Thank to Mr Brian Bass, he helped me out with the scatter shield info I was after.

Next I gave the body a general clean up, in with some bondo!

  10. Out into the spray booth for a few coats of DNA primer and a pearl blue base coat for now.

Next I cobbled it together for one last mock up now having gone to a tube chassis design rather than '32 rails.

This was the plan but in the end I had tube bent up for the main rail step up.

Next with the help of my mates Big L, Ben, Aaron and Soco we spent a day on fabrication to get the old girl rolling.

Then after a short sleep Big L and I dropped the motor on for a look.

  11. Next day I positioned the body up and mounted the motor and she was off to Chopped for display! I very busy three weeks I tell you! Next I will be building headers, setting up the steering and building the cage, so more to come.
    Cheers -Ryan Ford

  12. Love the engine change, and the tube chassis gives it a serious race car feel.
Great stuff, look forward to seeing this do a few passes.
