Technical Tech week - shop quickie spark plug boots

Getting 8mm plug wires thru a 90* plug or distributor boot can be a real problem sometimes. It's a bit like sticking a wet noodle up a wild cats ass. S
So this little tip makes a PITA job a non issue.


First thing is you talk real nice to this thing.



Get your fav lube for this job.
Dish washing liquid soap works good too.
But this isn't the trick



Find your 5/16" Allen wrench with a balled end




Run the boot over the wrench

Let it sit like this just for a few seconds. I didn't time it but about 30 then take the boot off. But you need to work quickly here.
It stretches that boot and the plug wire slips right thru nearly effortlessly and with out even noticing it went dead end into a 90.

8 wires booted in about 5 mins or so.

I jumped off the roof of a house once on to a picnic table loaded with beers and happy revelers...And yes, it was a "hold my beer" moment...What the hell I was doing drunk on a roof I have no recollection of...

 

I used this trick today. It worked! No more digging into the boot with needle nose pliers.

Actually hoped to do my little tech week gear shift knob project but had to spend all week climbing into the engine compartment of a jacked up 4x4. What a PITA. On the bright side when something fell under it I could grab it easily. Oh and the starter was easy to get to, save for the headers.
