Looks good. The main difference for distance is the firewall. Mine isn't flat all the way across. On either side, it is pushed out about 4", basically creating a recess for the motor in the middle. I have to yank my motor to fix the rear main seal. I am goin to cut the firewall out and build a recessed one with a transmission hump to move the motor back and use standard components. I am going to box an extension from the frame for motor mounts using OE truck insulators.
Nice. If you ever get up to SW oregon, you are welcome to my front bumper as a spare.

I opted to just rebuild my front end and added disc brakes. Rides and stops much better now. Also put on some smoothies. 15x5 front and 15x7 rear.

4woody, if you wouldn't mind, can you put up a pic of your motor mounts? Still slinging around ideas on how to do mine.

what's wrong with the engine in it? If you have to have more mph put a 5 speed behind the flatty or change the rear diff. Nice car by the way.

Could you post a good pic or two of the sun visor?
I think I have one like that that's been modified to fit my car, but I've never been able to identify it.

  10. Way cool thread, sorry I missed it all this time. My first car, in '78, was a '40 Plymouth coupe. Wish I still had it, or a replacement. Someday.

Don't know a whole lot about the earlier Chryslers, all I know is we seem to have a lot of them abandoned out here in Utah, USA.

Just bumped into this thread as I have not been too active on the HAMB in a while. Below are some pictures of both of my DeSoto's and my son's Desoto. Blue sedan was purchased by me in 1982, cosmetically restored in the late 80's and sold in 1992. Regretted selling it. Found it again in 2013 and bought it back. Has now been repainted (since the picture) with skirts and visor added. I am both the 2nd and 7th owner! Red coupe is my latest acquisition and actually was an eBay find. I am third owner. No rust at all and overall in great shape. Needs interior work and some cosmetics. Intend to drive this summer - just put the plates on it last Saturday. Red sedan is my son's. We found it right after I bought the blue one back. All of these are good runners and drivers. Future plans will call for brake upgrades. As long as they run good, we will keep them mostly stock though I would like an early Desoto hemi for one of mine some day.
