  5. A little more on that car now, for anyone that is interested: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=814209

The thread doesn't get updated much, but I can tell you, that it looks a hell of a lot more like the old pictures now, than the thread reflects.

It was a GMC! Vandit, where the Hell did you find that pic man? I've searched for pics of both of those cars for years and could only come up with this one:

Excellent! Maybe a bit conservative for the '50s, but beautiful nonetheless.

  12. I'm kinda cheating. The trans is a '64. Everything else is pre-57.

  14. Let's bump this old thread with a few pics of my latest build known as the Caddyhauler.

Shooting for that late 50's vibe. 331 Caddy, 39 box, banjo rear.

Here is my sedan w/ 283 on '39 box as I wanted to build in high school (graduated in '57). Spring is still trying to arrive in the high desert of Oregon, but I should be on the road in the next week or two; only weather is keeping us inside.

  18. Terry, Love your sedan....I also graduated in 57 and the yellow car on the left is what I wanted back then also. ( less the front independent and if I had a chance to redo it I would go with a dropped heavy)

  19. In researching some inspiration for '31 truck I am building to compliment my roadster in the pic below I looked through the '40s and '50s period correct threads start to finish. I love how these threads show big/little and same size tire combos, www tires, different engine combos, wires and steel wheels, paint versus primer, east coast/west coast/lake bed looks, and overall debunking many hot rod styling myths. Most of all it shows you that the choices were just as varied then as now.

Thank you to everyone who contributed... The two threads were truly something else!

I'm also hoping to pass this passion down to the next generation. This is my nine year old daughter dismantling the passenger side of the truck.

  20. How about this one?

Shown unfinished at the Darryl Starbird Custom Car Show in Wichita in 1959. Owner died soon after.

I was luck enough to aquire the car this year.

Caddy powered with leaded in fenders and running boards.

Are you going to do a build thread? After what you did with the truck, I'd sure subscribe to it!

  26. Thanks guys.
The plan is to sell the truck to redo the sedan. I will do a build thread on the sedan once the tear down begins.
If the trucks sells quickly, I plan to have the sedan ready for the Detroit Autorama in February. If it takes a while to move the truck, that time table will be unrealistic.

@daddy_o's_diner Didn't have your number with me last weekend or I'da gave you a ring to see if you were around. My brother and I were over for the swap at the fairgrounds. Knocked a couple more pieces off the list with good deals. I'll remember to get in touch next time...I'd love to check out that sedan, and I want a spin around the block in that truck before it goes to a new home! ha!
