    GaryC.

I was just browsing around when I found this thread.
A few years ago; when I first started posting on the HAMB
I submitted this on a Friday Art Show.
It was based on the "Wild Hare".

"The small ad that's to the right appeared in the classified ads of a kit-car magazine in the early '80s. I called the fellow in Stockton,CA and he was a great guy. He was so pleased that someone called and remembered the "Wild Hare Special" that he sent me a free set of plans. I hope he's still with us. When I talked to him in the '80s he was well up in years."

I loved that little car from the first moment I saw the classified ad.

Great photos and story. Thanks for posting!

  4. Wow. What a story and what neat cars. I only wish my auto shop teacher had been as creative as that. Teachers play a far greater role in inspiring their students than they're given credit for, and yours was one of the best. Thanks for a great story.

Wow... just found this thread. I own the missing third car and drive it regularly. It's amazingly original except for the upholstery.
Would love to contact the guy in Washington for a Wild Hare reunion.

I sent you a PM but maybe you don't know how they work. I talked to the guy who owns the other two about your post. He wants to talk to you but I need you to PM me for his phone #. When I started this post I never figured the 3rd car would turn up on it. Now we just need to get you two guys together to complete this really interesting story.

No, these were a really low buck deal. Just old junkyard parts. Altho with a little more money thrown at them they probably could have been.

I know Jeff, we were talking about the Wild Hare this last weekend, if you PM me the phone number for the gentleman with the other two cars I can forward it to him.

  16. I have attached the plan you could buy from Mech. Illustrated. It calls for using a 32 chassis because of the wheel base. This one has a post mark date of 1957. notice the z'd 32 frame.

Great thread. I remember seeing the car in Hot rod in 1961 and still have that issue stashed away if the mice haven't ruined it in storage.
