Just damn, another hero of mine passes on. Met him in front chutes at Pomona, where I was working at the time. He was still driving his 62 dodge S/S RIP Bill
The original 'Show Man' -another legend lost R.I.P Bill Thoughts and Prayers go out to all his family and friends
A good friend of mine. Our paths crossed many times out on the road. We were booked into many mopar shows together over the years. I got to know him very well. He was a very smart man. He could also remember dates and details of races like no other. A encyclopedia of early drag racing. A true showman. So long my friend.
I got the chance to build up a model of his truck and then present it to him way back in high school. Don't know how or why, but he got booked for a PR stop at a local slot car track (Waukegan, IL) and the track owner asked me to build up a kit as part of the event. I suppose he just tossed it out the next day or gave it away, but it sure was a cool day for me. RIP, Bill. Gary
Years ago I can remember it was a common site to drive by his house and one of his wheel stander trucks would be sitting in his front yard. RIP Bill
He wowed & entertained a mass of fans over the years, glad to say I was one of them. RIP Maverick, helluva show.
Was lucky enough to see both Bill and Bob Riggle (Hurst hemi under glass) at Milan drag way in the 80's. I was a young kid and it was the highlight of my life up to that point to see him run (more than) 1320' on the bumper!! I dug out the old red Lindburg model kit of the LRW this evening to build in his honor. Long overdue. Inside the box it had bill's home address and phone number said "call or write anytime!! "I hope to see you on the other side sir!! Thanks for all the memories!!! James
