  1. Or if he goes down the track on a run with his turn signals blinking...

""Headlight burned out tonight...it is one of the old ones, pre 74 that just has the number 2 at the top, instead of 2D1. Darn. Now I only have three of them left.""

Not to worry, I got some...Nice bug catch, er splat..

I know the long trips kinda suck while your making them but the memories are all good.
Good luck with the tour and your trip back home.

Squirrel, you and your kid are my heroes, I would have thought twice about doing what you are doing and that would have been stupid on my part. Good luck, be safe and give em hell!

Just now read the entire thread, and Jim, you're my hero! I know you're having a blast, and hopefully it will all come together as a trip of a lifetime for you and your son. Keep an eye on that rear gear oil level, as you want that 3.00 gear to still be in shape for the trip home!

Had a few weird symptoms. Checked the timing it was at 34 initial. Backed it off a bit.

34° initial ? Timing locked? Just curious.. My pulling tractor used to start with 36° locked timing, don't think it ever kicked back but it was small cube single cylinder.....

If you put a cardboard box over the carbs and cut a hole in the back you will get 20mpg!

Well maybe not, but you won't have to pick so many bugs out of your air filters. ;)

man, I once tried briefly to run a big ci 12.7/1 NA street driven bbc with the timing locked out. It was ok when it was warm, but if the engine coughed when it was cranking cold, there would be this little 'plink" sound, and you would look under the car, and the end of the starter nose would be laying on the ground under the car. It was like clockwork, did it every time it coughed. Got sick of that pretty quick.

^^ Don't some guys get 'em cranking and then hit the ignition switch?

It was amusing the first three times...:D Come to think of it, between some of my transmission photos;), a few ring & pinions, and some other assorted bits, I could do a pretty good "shit I've tacoed" thread all by myself...:eek:

Yes, you wire an ignition interrupt. This was kind of a short-cut thursday night mid-season deal, to get ready for a race on the weekend, that wound up staying that way for about a month. Some guys do it with a toggle switch, I like to use a push-button that's open when you push it. Then you push the button, spin the starter, when its rolling good, let the button go.

Don't let the OK troopers see that open container or you'll be hearing
"Son, I'm gonna have to write you up".
    [/QUOTE]
the engine would get the open container ticket , but it has a lower alcohol content than whats in the tank ... 4.5% vs 10%
