First, congrats Larry on the project. I love that the previous owner and some of its history is so close by. What did he have to say when you shared your plans?

Secondly, I think you and @uncle max may have been separated at birth. Or, at the very least, you have a doppelganger/stunt double right here on the HAMB.

he had no problem with my choice of engine/trans/suspension upgrades...he would have liked to see a flathead back in it, but he understood its limitations. He didn't understand why I didn't want to repaint it and reupholster it...I said I'm leaving it alone.

Must be a little later than '68. That Impala/Caprice is at least a '72 or '73 I believe.

Have been following this thread since the first post. And in that time, watching Larry go in different directions to resurrect a true Hot Rod with provenance, that has already gone through the evolutionary process that these cars go through, to keep it true to it's roots and yet make it his own, has been very enjoyable. I know the many different thoughts and concepts that can run through your mind while trying to put something together that works is daunting. Larry has gone through the machinations that we all go through in bringing a concept to fruition, should I do this, will this work, but instead of doing it in private he has shared it with us. Not sure I would be willing to bare that much of my personality, idiosyncrasies, before a group like this, or any other. I have to applaud him for this, and look forward to more on the tale of this little RPU.

Just to throw another option into the mix, here's one of the pics from the first page with some very rough photo-shopping to bring the front wheels forward (where they would be with a spring-over axle setup) and to bring the engine and grille shell back a bit ...

Yes, yes. This, combined with your 283, and MAYBE a hood top, cycle fenders back on it, now we're talkin'. Apart from that, notice the black paint on the frame forward of the firewall in that pic? Interesting.

Have you finally fallen of the old rocking chair, and landed on the right frame? I want to see sparks and paint fly, and wants to see hammers and ratchets working overtime!
And by rocking chair I mean you going back and forth between frames. 31 or 32, 32 or 31?

  16. ......................Yeah, and it looks like a '70-'72 Monte Carlo behind it.

  23. 3Window Larry, Just found this (must have been under a rock for the last month). Very cool little hot rod. My vote is for the deuce frame under it. Hell it's got a deuce grill.

Can anybody post pics of the Dean Lowe RPU frame, build by Kurtis.

That would be an nodge in the right direction for Larry. And if he goes toward the DL-RPU-BY-K, on his custom fabbed frame, he can't go wrong! ! !

People say it is a piece of art, looks and construction wise.

Would you mind sharing the specs on the 283? I have a '57 283 & '39 top loader going in my next project so I am curious what your plans are for the little mouse.

    Thanks,

    Larry, how's it coming along?

Here is some inspiration from a 1956 Car Craft.
