yup, I was there that weekend. I used to hit the fallnats/jolly rancher nats or whatever else they were calling it on any given year up through to about 2003/2004, used to hit all the WDRS's down there as well.
I quit drinking in '87 (reason may be clear when I tell this next story:rolleyes:) but by the mid eighties, I had built up a tolerance for liquor that would even leave some Canadians in shock. At that time, most American beer was around 4%, and most Canadian beer was 5.5%. We called American beer "pisswater" because we would drink it as fast as we pissed it out.
One time around '83 three of us were stopped at the gate at SIR for a WDRS with a freshly opened American 24 pak in the back seat. He told us we couldn't take "all that beer in". We just shrugged and said "no problem" backed up about 50 yards, parked on the side and got out of the car. We started popping tops, chugging Oly and pissing in the woods, guy at the gate is watching this whole performance. In about 5 minutes we were back at the gate with a trunk full of empties. The driver lets go with a beer belch and says 'beers gone, can we get in now?" Guy at the gate just shakes his head and says "fuckin crazy Canadians..." and let us in.:D True story.

that's what I usually find. Guys always say driving a ten second car on the street is so impractical, but in my experience, they are usually better on gas than a crew cab duallie pulling a trailer with 4000+ pounds worth of race car and tools, and a DAMN sight more fun! Getting TO the track is never a problem, but sometimes getting home is another matter!:(;)

well better let us know your routes in case we have to do a HAmergency run for parts , tools or shop

. I hope you brought your jet kits as the weather is going to change and if your coming towards the windy the temps are going to drop into the 60's and the air pressure is going up over the weekend ..

no, we have to take out everything, which is a normal safety precaution at any drag race. The 4 tires inside the car have to go on the car for racing, etc.

Sounds like a helluva lot of fun. Toolbox and slicks in the trunk, reminds me of another road trip.

With no interior and that huffer ,there's a good chance not much conversation will take place. Enjoy the trip. I think there will be a bunch of blokes from Australia this year in a Holden Monaro. If you get a chance say G'day to them.

  21. Slap a layer of dyna-mat or an equivalent on the firewall & floor. It may make the ride a little more comfy.

I wasn't real anxious to read this thread as the title made me think it was a bitch about some poorly planned event that was a waste of your time. But then I noticed who started it and decided that there was probably some merit to be found.
The whole deal sounds like a lot of fun. I would imagine a lot of guys trailer to the first event and then drive from there. Good for you on driving to the 1st. I am waiting to see how the rear gear thing goes. I know you mentioned wanting a Quick Change some day. Is this the car?
Have a ball and be safe.

Got going while it was still dark out. At first gas stop. 10 mpg. Cruises nice at 70 to 75.
