I am trying to come up with some good looking tailight lenses for my '53..some input on different types of tailights that work on these '53-'54 chevys...how bout '54 merc lenses..?

  2. Some year dodge the whole taillight assembly would work. I liked using the 54 Chevy and cutting another top to fit in place of the white backup lens.

In my opinion the original ones in full red are by far the best looking tail lights in 53-54 Chevrolet.

I'm partial to Lee lenses frenched in. But, looks good with the factory bezels too. As evidenced by the photo in the post above.

Not a 53 but close. I used Lee 55/56 Merc full custom lenses. Made the cans and frenched them in. finish paint 049.jpg finish paint 058.jpg

I replaced my clear backup lenses with red ones. Mild change but I like it.

"Back in the day" we used the 59 Cadillac lenses in the 53s.

Your idea about '54 Merc's isn't bad, but the next best thing, and much rarer, would be a pair of '56 Chrysler lenses. Same type of "tilt"but a little thinner.

Whatever you do, good luck ! That's a nice Chev !!

I used ripple plastic and cut it to the inside edges of the bezel. Worked great. Taillight lense.jpg

I don't have any pictures but 1953-54 Pontiac wagon taillights are a nice bolt on.

What about a 49-51? Shoebox Ford taillight turned vertical like yours is factory. Suttle, yet custom!

In my 54 I had LEDs that were diamond shaped, I loved them and so did everyone else.

Art "Crazy Art" Fullerton, on his two '53 BelAir sedans used frenched, recessed & vertical '51 Ford taillites, with the top & bottom lens points just showing.... I thought the lens shape and longer body worked very nicely on his Chevys... DYNO DAVE

My car came with 59 caddy tails but I am going to cut these off with the custom section of 1/4 to replace with 56 Packard, anyone interested in the set? If so make offers image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
