We are forgetting in 1961 $20 was a lot of money. It would by several bags of groceries and a lot of gas.
Even those 49 Lincoln tail lights are worth way more than that. Estate and yard sales can be fun.

Great find. Glad it went to someone who won't stick a MII suspension and LS engine in it. Very cool. Good for you.

Very cool. Does it still have the stock rear suspension?

Your car looks like a brother to the 1947 Mercury I bought in 1967 for $85. I made the front end tilt and it still has the 392 engine too.

Well here is the follow-up story to the gasser coupe. Shortly after I posted this story on the HAMB, I got a call from a guy in Texas. He had found his father's old drag-car coupe and was restoring it but could not find a 392 motor. He intially called me about buying just the spare race-car 392 Hemi but afer hearing more about the coupe he became interested in both the coupe and the spare engine. We struck a deal and he had a shipper pick them up and they are both now in Texas. I sold them for two reasons. One, I made a little profit on the deal...but the other big reason was the new owner was into old gassers and had the resources to finish the coupe. He has been in frequent contact with me and recently sent me a video of the maiden voyage around the parking lot! I am confident I made the right decsion to sell them!<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aAgcYLoG8_M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's all good, sometimes you got to let one go, to keep on the other stuff/life in general.

Is there any chance you told him about the HAMB, I would like to see that car being brought back and become race ready!
