I slept on this, had a thought when I woke up (im old, and it takes a while for my memory to kick in). the thing about the back tubes hitting the firewall triggered this. Is it possible they made a mistake, and sent the headers they make for the '66-'69 bodies the second time? I know from past experience with a different set of headers that the later ones will contact the firewall if you try to use them in a pre'65 body...

Could be,same part number, who knows!!!Still I had to hammer and file 6 out of 8 header flanges!!!!I was NOT impressed,20+ inch difference in the length of some tubes, may be OK for pure street usage!!!!! ROY.

Now I understand the 1 3/4" primaries on the headers...my Hedmans are 1 5/8" primaries and therefore smaller. But I do like the 4.56 rear gear with a 4 speed and a 12.5 to 1 CR solid cam balanced and blueprinted 289 or 302! And on the street! In fact, I am running a 4.71 rear gear with a Detroit Locker and 31 spline axles....

Can you give out any info on Dales new engine? And I hope that you don't have anymore issues with the shifter and/or trans!

  8. I know I'll get my ass handed to me, but if you (Roy) or Snoke are at the mooneyes Xmas party, I'd like to line up and run ya, that's of course if your cars are there.

  11. Couple more sleeps to the big race of the year for me. The only 1/4 race on Vancouver Island is held in my home town on our air strip. Last year I won the Mod class !2.99 to 11.50 . made some changes and hoping for a new best time. This a pic from our test and tune.

  16. Race report, saturday was a complete rain out. Sunday we had 2 time trials and into elims. First pass I spun but ran 12.89@107mph with a 1.94 60ft and redlight. New fast time. Second pass I dead hooked dragged the motor down and ran 12.65@107 with a 1.94 60ft. Light was a .2445, having trouble adjusting to the slicks verses street tires as I have red lighted 4 times this year. Next round is elims and I dial 12.70 as I'm still not sure about the new combo and my reaction times. Light was better .1548 ran 12.6903@ 107 with a 1.94 60ft braking and breakingout. I launched with a little higher rpm and the car ran strong the whole way. I saw the mustangs nose in the other lane dive down so I drove past him before braking, beat him to the stripe by .0003 but his reaction time was better by .02 as why I had to breakout to beat him to the line. The comet ran great and would have been nice to get more runs to try a couple different things but happy I found some more speed.

  20. Roy, I'm thinking of going to more gear to get my rpms up. Running 4.88 street gears now but have a set of 5.28 gears and spool. Just need to put them together. One more race weekend racing 1/8 mile. With my 29.5 tall tires I need more gear I feel to improve my 60ft. Last time I raced I tried not shifting intoDrive and just running it out in 2nd. I crossed the line at 7200 rpm but no real improvement in ET.
Al, seat time is king. Last year I raced 4 weekends/7 races and won 3 events. This year 2 weekends/3 events and had close races at the line but have only won 2 rounds during elims. Last year I made 49 runs and this year have not made 20 yet. Hopefully next weeekend I will go rounds. Hoping to move up into Pro class, alot faster cars and not as many ducks compared to Sportsman that I normally race. Compition is good.

Roger;I think the 5:28 may be perfect, especially seeing that your combo is good to at least 7200!!! I can got through the 1/8th in third,ET does not change, but if I short shift into fourth my MPH goes up 5 -7 MPH! ROY

  27. Al, comet is looking good and lwould like to see some interrior pics when done. I assume you are having a cloth headliner put in. Mine is the board type but I got some bows last fall for the other style.

Yes cloth type, I have the parts from mine for the cardboard style but the chrome plastic parts weren't nice anymore, so I found a 65 Falcon donor for the bows. I will be taking pictures for sure I have a photo album starting from when the man opened his garage door to show me the car......................Al

  29. The 4.88 street gears are out and the 5.29s are in. Hoping for an improved 60ft for the comet this weekend. My best 60 ft so far has been 1.94. not very good.
