That's not a bad idea, while you're at it how about a deep dish pizza & root beer button?

  4. Who doesn't love a full fendered rpu? You have something to be proud of there.

Thanks for the kind words, fellas... now where were we...? Oh yeah... PAINT.

Look. I've painted stuff before. Stuff like motorcycle tanks and tins, skateboards, helmets, and like that there. I knew enough to be a little confident, but this was my first car-size spray job. Luckily, I was able to park the '29 coupe and the '31 pickup at a good friend's place, which gave me flexibility to hang a make-shift plastic-walled paint booth within the garage. With that, I was on my way to making the fenders shiny black. All the paint is PPG Shopline stuff... BC/CC... with 3M polishing stuff.

I'm not gonna lie... it was tough. I struggled. However, my whole motivation here is that I'd rather it be mine than be perfect. I'll either take the credit or the blame for how it looks when it's done. :D

Wheels and tires... let's see... all came from Coker. Wheels are new chrome 'OE Ford Style'. Fronts are 15x5 with 560-15 Firestones, and rears are 15x7 with 900-15 BF Goodrich... both are 1" whitewall.

OK. So now the roller has shiny fenders and such on it, so I can start working on the bed and grill to get them ready for the green. The bed kicked my ass... not gonna lie. It still has some spots I'll need to work out, but I figure once I get it running I got the rest of my life to rub on this thing, right?

At this point, I just really wanted to get something green onto the roller so I could see how the colors came together. The grill shell did the trick. I like it.

... and with the bed finally done enough, I could set it onto the roller and lock down all the rear fenders, aprons, running boards, front fenders, brackets, and headlight bar. SO now the roller with bed is done, and it's starting to come together!

Awesome build. Having followed your other thread about the dramas you discovered with the cab, is it at about this stage of the build that all happened?

Yeah - this thread is just about current, aside from the RPU cab situation documented in my other thread. I'll provide more build updates on this thread going forward.

You've done a great job so far, and the paint looks, well, dare I say perfect. You have a lot to be proud of. I admire how you handled the whole cab situation. I know a lot of guys who would have gone about it completely differently. I can't wait to see this thing come together. Well done so far Sir!

This RPU is gonna look fantastic when it's done! I have the same theory with my roadster. My car's nowhere near perfect but it's mine and I'm building it and I'm going to be proud of it when it's done.

Thanks for all the kind words!

I wanted to post this update to keep these threads sync'd.... Brookville went above and beyond to address the bondo in the rear corners of the RPU cab. They shipped me a whole new rear section last week.

    Details are here.

This just reinforces my previously held belief of what kind of company Brookville is.
