I'd hate to write a "what's it worth" thread, but I'm pretty lost here, and the search function isn't turning up much. My neighbor has a Pierce Arrow dash for Sale, but he's not sure what to ask. What are the gauge clusters worth? I haven't seen any other ones for sale to compare it to, other than the ones Alchemy has made. It has pitting in the chrome, and the insert is pretty worn. I know it's worth what someone is willing to pay, but this someone wants to have an idea of what other someone's are paying.
Good neighbor? If he is a nice guy and need some funds eBay it. The $3,000. tag I saw on one at Hershey seamed high. Bob
Just list it on Ebay with a ridiculous reserve to see what the offers are, then go from there. It's impossible to give an answer without knowing the year & model and without pictures.
Pitted pot metal is expensive to rechrome. If you would run it as-is in rough chrome condition, that's OK, but if you require shiney be prepared to spend big bucks for good work. That's why my aluminum stuff sells so well (no chrome, just a little polish a couple times a year). Look it over well for cracks. I've seen lots of pot metal parts that have stress cracks at bolt bosses and other locations. All that said, you probably couldn't go too wrong spending $500 for even a rough one. Up to a few grand for a really nice one.
They stick you with a fee for placing a reserve. Best cheapskate bet is to start at your bottom dollar or do a Best Offer listing with a high starting number.
Thank you guys for all your help. I can't tell him to put it on eBay because I'm wanting to buy it for my roadster, and am looking for what a fair number for me to pay is. He is asking $2,000 obo. And I don't know what a good price is. I'll try and get pictures for you guys too.
My high school buds' dad used to drive us to school a couple of times a week in his restored '33 Pierce Arrow (Town car, with 'open chauffer's cockpit') Pretty cool... limousine pulls up in front of the school bus stop, door opens, and out step a short crew of yay-hoos...
