History White Firewalls lets see them!!!

I just wet myself...

 

Now that is what I call a hot rod. To me that is perfect.

 

very,very correct for 50's hot rods

 

Looks as good today as it did in the 40's. HRP

 

My Model A is a stock Chicle brown with black fenders, so I thought the Wimbledon white would brighten things up a bit.

 

Not the best pic, but mine is called vanilla shake.

When I said " white firewall and frame" they looked at me funny too.
I just laughed and said wait till you see it.

Repainted from refrigerator white to a much better, wimbledon white when the nailhead went in.

Wimbledon white on my '59.

 

Why did we paint the firewall white in the 50 s and 60 s? I don't think anyone told us why we just did it. And then kept it clean.

Love a white firewall.
Really like the flat black rods (primer) with the white firewalls.

And this reminds us of the black/white checkerboard fire walls. On the right car they look good. Any one have pics? Think there is a thread on here about checkerboard ???

 

Hankster32 they used to paint the firewalls and inside of racecars white so it would be easier to see to work on them so I'm guessing it just got passed on to them. My favorite hot rods from when I was a kid all had white firewalls and whitewall tires.
