Ryan submitted a new blog post: The Randy Cannarozzi '29 - FINISHED! Continue reading the Original Blog Post
@Ryan when Keith started the build and you were listing the plan, I wasn't sure on the red wheels with the red body...I thought it would be too much red. But its perfect. Great build, great thread, great photos. Keep up the fine work fellas.
A piece of driving sculpture and perfect in every way, except for 2 minor issues:it should have me in the cockpit and my Serengeti Drivers on the seat. I think this roadster is going to be famous.
I was totally confident about the red wheels mainly because... Dick Flynt.... I was, however, a little hesitant with the dash color. It wasn't until Keith got the dash in the car that I figured out where he was going with it. It's now one of my favorite aspects of the car... The contrast doesn't speak all that loudly in the photos, but in person it's so rich... This car has soul already.
Wonderful work Keith and Ryan. Congratulations on a job well done. The car is beautiful and will only get better as it get worn in. Thanks for documenting the build.
I was also thinking "too much of the red" during the build. The cockpit cover really breaks it up though, and adds contrast. Nice craftsmanship and execution! Hey, got me to buy a Rex Rod & Chassis shirt to show a little support. Lookin' forward to future build coverage. Settin' the example.....
There are so many cool aspects on this car! One thing that I particularly love is the tonneau cover. You just don't see that done much in this day and age, but it's something I really like. I'm curious about the glove box door and its unfinished patina. @Ryan ,what's the story on that?
About three months ago, Randy showed up in a little SUV literally packed to the gills with parts. I mean, even the passenger seat was packed to the roof... and the little truck was so loaded that it sat with a particularly aggressive stance. Essentially, all these parts represented a lifetime of swap meet finds that had gone unused. And it was these parts that made this build affordable for Randy. I think the glove box door was part of that stash... and it was just so damned gorgeous in all of it's old chrome glory that it didn't make sense to re-chrome it.
Maybe this has been asked, but I thought Keith was at Austin Speed Shop now? Was this a side deal or?
Keith left the Speed Shop about four months ago or so... He's just better alone is all... The fellas at the Speed Shop are still very close pals. Cory is my guy, John Joyo is one of my closest friends, and Dr. Dan is my hero... In fact, he's helping me out of a family medical bind as I type this.
I had a vintage MGA in college. The top and side curtains looked nifty when it was parked, but were worthless in weather and hard to see out of.I had an idea and after snapping myself into the tonneau cover,I was perfectly comfortable in the winter weather.Friends would tell me I was always smiling, but that could have been my frozen face.Simple car, simple times......
Damn....it's not easy to choose the words that describe how much this car rules. The photos are killer too.
