According to the friendly driver from Speed's Towing who drug myself and my '98 Ford Explorer home, Gary is all but retired from Speed's and enjoying racing the newish Cobra Jet Mustang at his leisure. We should all be so lucky...

  15. A seldom seen car, ran from 67 to 70.
Note, no front brakes or radiator.

^^ From the Md. area I believe ^^ I also think they were members of the Ram Rods car club.
I reserve the right to be completely wrong though.

Nelson & Martin's brief experiment with a Latham axial flow blower, with side-draft carbs. I remember Jim Nelson actually fabricating these sheet metal shields for them in the pits at Santa Ana. The Latham didn't last long, to be replaced by a Potvin setup.

Jack Moss, from Amarillo, TX, Dodge powered.

Looks like a modified sports car runoff, Sam Parriott in the far lane in his Ford powered Kurtis car against what looks like a modified MG in the near lane.

The roadster is Wayne Calverts old car, probably (with the painting in the grill)was at the time called the "Ubangi"owned by Tinker and Johnny Faulkner....Photo was taken at Cadddo Mills with Buddy Andersons Fiat in the background..The roadster was also at one time called the "Buckeye" when Don Steelman owned it...quote from wbrw32, thanks!

    Or this T roadster?

    or this minimalist dragster?

At least these guys had names on their cars...Midwest produced a lot of strong gassers

This car has either been found and restored or recreated...after Tony sold it to build his Buick powered roadster, it went to the Santa Maria area where Jim Seaton fitted it with a Potvin blown Olds...then not sure what happened to it.

Smothers Brothers/Beach Boys...Jim Busby, etc...not sure who is driving here, though the late Hank Westmoreland drove it at one point.

Tom Larkin, ran both gas and fuel dragsters

  18. Speaking of The Loner, here's the Ivo chassis car. Started out in TOP GAS, this version was AA/FD with a new 426 and a stretched wheelbase, plus blue paint!

  19. I believe Dwight Salisbury drove the Smothers Bros. car.
[IMG] I'm sure I'm sure others did as well.

And, here's a shot of our 40 Willys at the Beach in the 1960's. Testing the wheelie bars and realizing we needed just a bit more tension. The days of experimention and wonder. Enjoy.
