Too bad the intake's been mounted. A lot of guys drill a point in the manifold behind the carb mounting, and run a front breather on the fill tube. That works pretty well, and keeps things pretty hidden. There are several threads on it. But, there's always more ways to skin a cat, and you'll figure another way to do it. I've referred several guys from other sites to your thread, and the mounts/cross member you've made. It looks like the 51 Bus Coupe I gave to my nephew, and we built together, will be coming back to me; he just does't have the time or money now that he's started his own aerospace machine shop, and is remodeling the house we sold him from my Mother's estate. And he could't afford the car too ? Keep em' coming. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Butch, the same thing passed through my mind about the intake. I could pull it, but my bigger concern is drilling it. I would prefer to leave it intact. The valve covers were cheap and are far from perfect. I think I can keep it pleasing to the eye by making the valve covers the point of entry...

So I decided to tap into the back of the passenger side valve cover. It's "busier" back there by the vacuum can on the distributor, so I decided to keep all plumbing in one spot. Plus the passenger side valve cover isn't as nice. Here's the baffle system I came up with, and then I packed it with breather material. Plans are to run a 90 degree rubber hose off the port to the manifold with a pcv in between.

Nice work, it looks like it was ment to be there. I picked up a 58' 283 with a stock intake a while ago, now you've got me wondering how mine is setup.

If it's stock, probably just a vented oil fill and a road draft tube

If you have room I would still recommend a baffle to keep as much oil as possible off the intake holes.

Will the holes and material not be enough? I can make a sheet metal baffle to go over it...

So here's the pcv set up finished. I used a formed 90 degree elbow coming out of the valve cover. I'm going to add a 90 degree brass fitting for the vacuum advance hose and that should wrap it up. I'm pointing at the inline pcv...

Nice work on the PCV install, very tidy and shows the quality work! I really enjoy the craftsmanship in your build and look forward to each update.

  17. Loving the well thought out idea you have going here. The PVC is quite impressive and sneaky. I'm not finding the sandwich OT at all...none of this happens on an empty stomach! ;)

  18. Um. Don't take this the wrong way but if you keep posting pics of your wife sandblasting then serving sandwiches we may have a problem... She's going to get a fan club.

The only thing worse than Chinese spreader bars are leaky valve covers... I took all the right steps to straighten the covers, peen the bolt holes out, glue the gasket, use black rtv... But I wasn't confident they would seal on the ends.

Oh well. At least they're orange so it takes the edge off...

Installed helicoils in 3 exhaust manifold bolt holes in the heads, installed the plugs and started laying out the wires. A little solvent and some elbow grease got rid of the branding on the wires. Laid 'em out in 2 different styles, but I think behind the valve cover looks best.

Cut out these spark plug wire looms holders at work. Grommets will be in tomorrow. Gonna tig weld them to the valve cover spreader bars.

Starter is hooked up, coil is wired with ballast resistor, all wires routed safely out of the way, freshly charged battery, and spark to the plugs, and a fire extinguisher near by. Gonna get fuel tomorrow and fire it up. Don't think the neighbors will appreciate an open header motor at this hour...

You have great ideas Deto! The plug wire holders are great. Plan to take a video when you fire it up?

Yes sir. It will be nice to hear it fire up. Hopefully that crate motor is as sound as it looked when I pulled it apart...
